Ncl getaway

Hi

Totally new to cruising want to give it a go - we are a couple mid thirties and like to have lots to do!

We looked at royal carribean allure but it's a bit pricey and then spotted NCL getaway the new ship for a carribean cruise next September.

I've researched lots about RCI especially ther 'at sea day' activities and there seems to be lots going on from quizzes to treasure hunts, sports competitions etc etc but every time I look at the ncl daily activites there just doesn't seem to be much happening apart from live music everywhere !? I know we will probably get off the ship I ports of call but on a sea day we will be mega bored just laying around on sun loungers - I know getaway is a n ship but can anyone tell me what their experience of sea day activities are on oth NCL ships?

Please visit the NCL board -- there are really helpful people over there. :)

As an answer to your question, there are many activities on sea days! (I took a 14 day transatlantic one year and we made only one port of call). NCL offers trivia, games, bingo, demonstrations, crafts, pub crawls (on some ships), martini tastings (for a fee), whiskey tastings (fee), and day time entertainment. You can also use the time to explore the ship and find nooks and corners you might not have found while roaming the ship on the first day. ;)

Of course the pools, casino, and general entertainment options will also be open. You might find the sea day a great day just to relax if you are doing a lot of sightseeing at the ports of call.

  • 4 weeks later...

We find them on par with each other for activities during the day on sea days

NCL do arrange quite a few things around bars and I have to say we had great fun on the breakaway the sister ship of the getaway

We did find that the jewel class ships did more in the line of quizzes and game shows than the breakaway/epic and a lot is down to the cruise director

Always seemed to be more going on in the evening on NCL than RCCL

Don't forget the Getaway is the sister ship of the Breakaway, so they are going to have a lot of activities on deck as well:

There has to be something here to keep you occupied...if not, you should walk the plank!

After many NCL Cruises, we decided to try RCL Oasis - we are now back to NCL

Our main disappointment with RCL was the daily activities and entertainment was just "not there" and even the burger place was a "specialty restaurant", the ship looked great on the website but in person, nada Compared to NCL, there was no Atrium with music etc. No "Pub" entertainment or pub crawl.

Possibly NCL does not advertise sea day activities much, I am sure there are posts with daily activities or, just ask, and a CC member will be happy to post some old listings.

Our September cruise on the Breakaway (Getaways sister ship) was OVER THE TOP! We actually could not fit in everything we wanted to do!

As posted above, check out the NCL Cruise Critic boards....I CAN NOT wait until our GETAWAY!

Have a great time!

If you were bored on the Oasis, you should have an MRI ASAP, really...there IS a pub right on the Royal Promenade with a live singer every night doing 60's, 70's, 80's songs...Hairspray was THEE best production show I've ever seen on 29 cruises including 5 NCL & 12 RCI...ice- skating show was great and the diving show in the Aquapark was simply the best show on any ship I've ever seen....Central Park was magnificent, especially at night with the classical trio playing and the stars above you to see....and BTW, the Oasis/ Allure ships were voted "best entertainment" right here on CC...you are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to get the facts wrong....I much prefer the amazing Royal Promenade to an atrium anyday and don't forget Dazzles had live music and so did the Viking Crown Lounge, and there is a comedy club and a Jazz club..don't forget the fireworks show and the 70's disco night on the Royal Promenade....certainly sounds boring, huh? NOBODY has EVER said there was little to do on Oasis- never! Congrats, you are the first..people may not like her, but one thing she is not- is boring with nothing to do....

Curiosity has the best of me: what is this a picture of?

OP: I don't believe it is possible to be bored on a cruise. I've been on a ship with only about 100 people total on board and still didn't have time to do everything I wanted.

As suggested upthread, check out the NCL board. Also read some of the reviews.

It's on the sports deck and it's called a spider web or something like that. It's a 25' enclosed climbing cage. The Epic had one, but it didn't have the slide at the top to get back down. It's pretty much a bungee web you climb through it to the top and slide down. Located buy the trampoline/bungee jump area. :)
