    • Yes, but it was a mistake on their part. I didn't have contraband.

Please e-raise your hand if you've ever been to the naughty room. ;) Please tell us what ship and for what reason you were summoned. I'm doing this just as a light-hearted thread and the purpose of this thread is NOT to judge rule breakers/benders. Save that for another thread. The naughty room is for more than just alcohol. I've been reading that some people have mistakenly brought on items that were prohibited so this is for those mistaken items and those on-purpose items. Also, were you embarrassed or did you wear your naughty room experience like a badge of honor? Do tell all you naughty lil cruisers.

*I have never been to the naughty room.

My husband and myself ended up there for forgetting our passports on for a Carnival Triumph cruise out of Miami in 2002. The cruise went to Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Mexico, so today we would be totally denied boarding. Even though this was post 9-11, they basically just took us to a scary private room, gave a slap on the wrist (and called our travel agent to give her a virtual slap on the wrist as well!), checked our drivers licenses with some database, and sent us on our way. Of course, we took some risk by getting off the boat in foreign ports, but we were young, childless and fancy-free :-) It was my husband's 1st cruise, and during the whole debacle, he swore it would be his last, be he converted quickly once on board!

My friends were a bit irritated to be brought to the naughty room and having to wait in line. We guessed security had spotted the small 12 oz bottle of spring water inside. I would think a simple apology was in order but they didn't get one.

This is why we always pack our water in my carry on. I'd rather they question it on embarkation rather than stand in the long line for the naughty room. I have never had them question the water on my carry on. Never once when it went through X-Ray did they open the carry on to make sure it is water.

First cruise ever was in Alaska in 2005 on celebrity summit. We did 4 days on cruisetour first. Everyone else had their luggage, but not me. Finally got overhead pages down to the naughty room. At one of the shows in alaska, i won a pocketknife. Brought it onboard without a second thought. They took it for the week....could have thrown it out for all i cared....but i did get it back and its in my house somewhere!

My small fan was the reason I got sent to the naughty room on the VOS. We waited for hours wondering where that bag was and were finally advised to call the natty room. Would have been nice of them to just call my room and let me know that it was there. They kept it until I disembarked and then I got it back.

Forgot I had put a glass bottle of pure maple syrup in the outside pocket of the suitcase. quite annoyed when I saw the notice on the cabin door because I could not imagine what the issue was, but I realized it shortly before getting to the room where I had to claim my suitcase.

They turned it upside down to check the viscosity I guess, and it was still sealed, so I was on my way quickly.

On the Spirit we were summoned to the NR, had to wait 20+ minutes, when we finally got to the front of the line our suitcase was presented to us, opened and searched, and had nothing in it, we asked what the problem was, got no explanation, no apology, the ship thugs just told us to go. The other couple we were with also went to the NR for apparently a bottle or sunscreen. One of my few truly upset moments with NCL

Last year we sailed on the Star out of New Orleans. We got to NOLA a couple days early to do a little sightseeing. We went to the Tabasco store in Jackson Square and bought a rack of Tabasco sauce for our oldest son for X-Mas. Well, we were going on a cruise the next day so we had to take it with us on our cruise. We thought NCL might catch this, so we were expecting a summons to the naughty room. And we were right.

It wasn't any big deal - they brought our suitcase to me, I opened it up and showed them it was Tabasco sauce....a lot of Tabasco sauce. The crew member laughed and told me to have a great cruise. Which we did!

Wait, we aren't allowed tabasco sauce or maple syrup?

I brought a bottle of pure maple syrup on my cruise in 2011. Absolutely no problem. The syrup was for the hometown gift exchange during our meet and greet. Guess security didn't have any issues with it.

Off the NCL Sun in St. Petersburg on a Baltic Capitals cruise, our guide ended the day with a boat cruise on the canals. After the repast she had a pint of vodka left over and handed it to me. Without thinking much about it I slipped it into my shoulder bag, where security found it and confiscated it as we returned aboard. I didn't think much about it until I got a note to report to the NR as we began to dock back at Dover several days later.

Guilty as sin! (Still have the pint on my souvenir shelf.)

They are both allowed, however, if you put them in your checked bag you might end up in the naughty room. Show them what it is and be on your way. Better to take it in your carry on.

I had a small 5-hour energy in my suitcase when we went on the NCL Epic. I totally forgot about it even being in there as I got it at a NASCAR race months before the cruise.

Wasted an hour of our vacation for nothing. Nothing prohibited in our bags. DH waited in line, got it inspected, got some accusatory questions, didn't get an apology, and was sent on his way. They wouldn't tell him what showed up as a concern. He wanted to know so we could avoid packing whatever it was in the future. We grumbled about it for a few hours, then got on with our vacation.

I made it twice !!! Once for an iron DW packed and the second time for a bottle that had lotion in it. Since the bottle was shaped like a booze bottle, the X-ray flagged it. No problem for me --- They kept the iron until the end of the cruise and I asked them not to drink the Vodka I had in the steam iron. I got a chuckle out of the guy for that one !!!

We had purchased numerous bottles of Tabasco branded products while in New Orleans pre-cruise on the Star in late November 2012. They were wrapped very well at the shop and we didn't give it a second thought when we packed it into our luggage before we got onto the ship. (We flew into to N.O. and were flying back home as well.) The bag it was in was held at the naughty room and my husband went down to claim it. They believed my husband and the numerous bottles did not need to be individually un-wrapped and re-wrapped. BTW...our son is in college and practically DRINKS Tabasco sauce as a beverage. It made for a great Christmas gift for him.

We budget alcohol as a line-item expense in our cruise spending plan and also purchase a bottle for the room and carry on some wine. So, no need for us to go to the naughty room for breaking the rules!

Once, on Enchantment of the Seas but I was successful! Blue vodka in a mouthwash bottle. Re-sealed the bottle so it looked legit and put it in my suitcase. 2 hours after my wife's bag was delivered there was no sign of mine. Our room steward said check the naughty room. Sure enough there it was with a big strip of tape that said "ALCOHOL". I opened it up showed security the bottle and...well I didn't pay for any vodka drinks that cruise. ;)

On the Dawn in 2007, a group of us were doing a pirate theme. I didn't get my bag, and received a summons to the security room.

When I got there, they asked me to open my bag,as they had "seen" something. I removed my sheathed, dull edged cutlass and they took it from me and said I could have it back at the end of the ten days.

I left and got partway back to my cabin, when I realized I had a question for them and returned to the security office...only to find the two crew members dancing around playing "pirates", one with my sword and the other with a ruler!

Arrrgh.:p

We went on a 4 nighter out of Port Canaveral on Carnival this past August. I read here on CC a tip given by a past cruiser to try a certain slot machine within the 1st hour the Casino opened. I proceeded to win $1000. So we decided that we could do some Christmas shopping in the bahamas. Very happily we got most of it done. Bags and more bags in hand we returned to the ship and were stopped right there. We were dumbfounded as to what we had purchased that was contraband and lo and behold the beautiful candles made by a local that we had purchased were nonos to bring aboard. Not a big deal, but felt like idiots. We were able to pick them up in the early morning of disembarkation.
