medic123 Posted November 1, 2013 #101 Share Posted November 1, 2013 I am going to ignore future smoking threads, so if they ever change their view on e-cigs will someone start a post with e-cigs in the thread title please.:)
jt1120 Posted November 1, 2013 #102 Share Posted November 1, 2013 I am normally the most outspoken person wherever I am, but recently I was in a mostly full elevator (on land) and a blue-hair with a gallon of perfume started to join us. This other, younger woman pipes up with her hand in the stop gesture and says (paraphrasing) "I'm sorry lady, but there is no room for that much perfume on this tiny elevator" and hit the close button. Everyone started chuckling, but I wondered how she could smell her and asked her. She had been trapped with her on the ride up earlier. That old lady's face was one of pure shock as the door closed. I really think it must have something to do with your sense of smell going as you get older. You see some younger people bathe in it, but you are almost locked in with an old lady. You KNOW she's going to douse herself in a bucket of it. It's about time someone said this! I know that it is off topic, but thank you! The only thing I would change is your view on the age of the culprits. Are you kidding? Young, old, it doesn't matter. Yes, older women do tend to BATHE in perfume, but I experience lots of younger men who seem to think if they spray the ENTIRE CAN of Axe on themselves, it makes them better looking or something. We've actually asked to be moved to other tables in restaurants when an olfactory offender is seated near us. I like the taste of steak, not the taste of Estee Lauder, but that is all you seem to taste when Gertie has soaked in the eau du toilette. Sorry, I just had to get this out. You may now all return to either bashing smokers or those of us who enjoy breathing untainted air. One thing to think about; if RC wasn't sure about the idea of changing (improving) their smoking rules, then why would they have been doing the same thing on their sister brand Celebrity for the past several years? They've had the same policy on smoking for quite some time and it hasn't seemed to hurt them at all.

Paul65 Posted November 1, 2013 #104 Share Posted November 1, 2013 Perhaps this is an over-stated "issue" that really doesn't mean much to most folks. Is there such thing as a cruise issue that is not overstated on CC? :)

I am asthmatic and strong perfume (and smoke) creates significant breathing issues for me. HOWEVER, we all should seek to assist rather than seek to embarrass others in order to get our way as the woman on the elevator did. As with much of the human body, the olfactory receptors also deteriorate with age. Many older/elderly people lose the ability to smell and so in an effort to be pleasing to self and others, they may use far too much perfume. Rather than being rude, it is better to share with the offending person, in a a tactful and private manner, the issue. It is not always my way or the highway. FYI, I am a male and I wear no aftershave or cologne.

caribbean sailor Posted November 1, 2013 Author #110 Share Posted November 1, 2013 (edited) It's hardly a single example. Many people have stated on here that they have cancelled or know people who have cancelled including me. I agree talked to a Royal Caribbean vacation planner last week, she said that there have been a lot of people canceling due to the smoking ban.But they feel they will come back.Time will tell.I am a non smoker, also never had a problem with a smoking balcony neighbor.Have a great a great next cruise.:) Edited November 1, 2013 by caribbean sailor

CRUISEFAN0001 Posted November 1, 2013 #115 Share Posted November 1, 2013 OK but I wouldn't hold your breath or smoke for that matter. These kind of 2nd hand rumors/stories have often failed to materialize. Something as big as the cabin/balcony smoking ban policy and all the corresponding announcements would likely not be reversed. Agree holding one's breath will only lead to alot of blue faces. Lunarclipse Posted November 1, 2013 #118 Share Posted November 1, 2013 Royal is going to sail full with our with out smokers. My source is the RCI vacation planners that all say it is very rare one of their ships sails with out max capacity. :D

caribbean sailor Posted November 1, 2013 Author #124 Share Posted November 1, 2013 I Just book a Europe B2B with a transatlantic, I love the no smoking. I had not cruised for 3 years on RCL now I'll reconsider since it's more like the other cruise lines with limited smoking. Have a great time.:)
Chelseapop Posted November 2, 2013 #125 Share Posted November 2, 2013 My guess would be NCL and CCL. Carnival ships sailing out of Australia have the same no smoking policy - only have smoking areas on certain sections of certain decks including one side of the Lido/pool deck. Definitely no smoking in the casino, bars, cabins or balconies. Certainly hasn't put people off cruising with Carnival from Oz. But then we do have really strict no smoking rules in Oz too
