CruiseHappy14 Posted November 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2013 This is my first time on Princess and would like to know how smoothly disembarking goes carrying your luggage off. Actually, it will be the first time we try this! I will be on the Crown this Saturday out of Ft Lauderdale :D Thank you!
pompeii Posted November 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I've done it on both my Princess cruises and it went very smoothly both times. Neither time was out of Fort Lauderdale, although my next time after the Panama Canal will be. The Star was easier than the CB because the dining room where we had to wait on the CB was more crowded with tables and chairs, which made it difficult to maneuver luggage. But it was fine and very quick both times. If you can handle your luggage it is definitely the way to go.
leavingocalaagain Posted November 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Generally quite easy to do at Port Canaveral. Sign up for self debark and you will be given a time and place to meet, presuming your goal is to go early. Get to the meeting room early for they direct you to different sections of the room (often a dining room) to wait. You must be able to handle all your luggage and have a "free hand" to hold onto the escalator rail or you will be redirected to the elevator (adding time). san diego sue Posted November 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2013 We have only done it in Los Angeles (San Pedro) and loved it. We don't travel with huge pieces of luggage so very manageable. One small suitcase each and one carryon for both of us to use.Don't think if you had more than that it would be easy.
Meatonabun Posted November 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2013 We took our own bags off the CB in April in Ft L. Very smooth. Have a fun trip!

Harley0711 Posted November 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I just came back from a 3 day to Mexico - this was our first time to "Self Disembark" I could not have been easier... went to the Vista Lounge, told the lady we were the 0830 self disembark, she pointed walked through those doors... scanned our ship card and off we went.. Wow, easy
Rare TracieABD Posted November 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I have done it a few times, and have never had an issue. They do say that you must keep one hand free for the handrails on escalators, though I have never seen this enforced (I am not sure how they would...). I prefer to have them handle my luggage, to be honest. I have never hit a snag. I get off the ship, and my luggage is there!
OCruisers Posted November 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Just make sure you are able to actually take ALL of your luggage & things with you without any assistance at all. LuLu ~~~~

caribill Posted November 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Generally quite easy to do at Port Canaveral. I assume you mean Port Everglades.
leavingocalaagain Posted November 11, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Yep, Port Everglades! Was just reading about expansion at Port Canaveral and my feeble mind can only handle one port at a time
Stevesan Posted November 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 11, 2013 My last two cruises using walk off I was at FLL @8:45.
jennmaybe Posted November 22, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2013 We are also getting ready to sail Princess for the 1st time out of Port Everglades. The ship is scheduled to arrive back at the port at 7am, so what time do folks normally begin walking off? We always take our own luggage and have a 12:30pm flight out of PBI. I was thinking if we were off around 8:30am or so, we should be ok making our flight.
TW6cruiser Posted December 12, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 12, 2013 When do you pick 'self-disembark'? Once on board?
stinky1 Posted December 12, 2013 #16 Share Posted December 12, 2013 We usually do the self disembark, after someone accidentally picked my luggage and then brought it back. We prefer carry off as it is quick and easy or to send the luggage directly to the airport.
stinky1 Posted December 12, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 12, 2013 We just got off the Golden here in San Pedro. Ship docked at 7:00 we were in line at 8:00 and in the car by 8:30.
jkskrap Posted December 12, 2013 #18 Share Posted December 12, 2013 When do you pick 'self-disembark'? Once on board? I was wondering the same thing. I assume you pick it on board . . .
caribill Posted December 12, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 12, 2013 When do you pick 'self-disembark'? Once on board? There will be a form sent to your cabin a few days before the end of the cruise. Return it ASAP as they do limit the number of self-disembark participants.

gooch47 Posted December 12, 2013 #21 Share Posted December 12, 2013 The only problem we've ever encountered was finding room in luggage packed elevators.

LoveThisCruisingThing Posted December 12, 2013 #23 Share Posted December 12, 2013 This is my first time on Princess and would like to know how smoothly disembarking goes carrying your luggage off. Actually, it will be the first time we try this! I will be on the Crown this Saturday out of Ft Lauderdale :D Thank you! I did it for the first time on my last cruise. Will never go back to the old way. It was so simple and fast. I take my big bag and a carry on, so I don't have a lot of bags to deal with. Plus get off the ship sooner and that avoids the hassle of lines and back ups in customs.
