We're "Barking" in 4 Weeks...Anyone Else Have Silly Cruise Sayings???

I've downloaded the Simpsons song where the CD (voiced by Steve Coggan) sings to the passengers that there half way through their cruise and should "enjoy it while you can"

I play it to DW half way through our cruise. It's a reminder to enjoy every moment.

Have a search for it, it's very good!

I like this! My DH used to watch a terrible movie over & over. It was "Down Periscope" with Kelsey Grammar. It was a submarine, and everytime they were ready to go he would say "Let's kick this pig!" Well-----everytime we were ready for the ship to go, he would say "Let's kick this pig!" I must have heard it a dozen times on our last trip!!!!!:D

I played "enjoy it while you can"4 days ago. As I say it's a good reminder to live every minute on a cruise ship.

ours are always SockMonkey Cruises... *you may have seen our door magnet of sock monkey hanging onto his wine bottle* ;)

Comes from the first cruise I took, traveling with my parents. We got the much longed for upgrade fairy phone call, and had been moved to a penthouse suite on the Star for our trip to Alaska. That evening I was in the kitchen fixing dinner, while Momz was checking out the information on our 'NEW' room. She was reading the descriptions of the perks to Dadz, and when it came to the Soft, Fluffy Robes..... me, in the kitchen with the sizzling pans, heard Sock Monkey Robes. I came into the living room asking them what they were talking about that had sock monkey robes?? Needless to say, they both fell outta their chairs laughing and trying to explaine that they said SOFT, FLUFFY.... not sock monkey. fast forward to embarkation day, first thing we checked in the room was that we had Soft Fluffy Robes in our closet. LOL.

We now have a small sock monkey travel mascot that always hangs out in the room, the door magnet that always gets noticed...and yes, we always have to explain the story.... and when we get to our rooms, first thing we do is check to see if our Sock Monkey robes are in the closet where they belong... :p

I refer to the "Inch of Gold" sale as the "Fool's Gold" sale, as in "A fool and his money are soon parted at the Inch of Gold sale". And, on Carnival, when they have the "Legends" show (for passengers that try to sing on stage like some well known singer), I refer to it as karaoke for sober people.:D

As it gets closer to our sailing date, I find myself singing Garth Brooks' "Two Pina Coladas".

Priceless! This has been one of the best threads yet!

  • 1 year later...

The buffet is the trough... absolutely.

Waiter on the Glory (Noel) would say 'yeeesssss' as you placed your dinner order. When he offered more of anything, or dessert, we always responded 'yessss' in the same tone. We do it all the time at home now, too.

We also disembowel at the end of the trip, from our cabins in the bowels of the ship.

The free drink card from the casino is a Stinky-Drinky card... and the soft drink sticker is a magic sticker.

At the lifeboat drill, we scan the rows to select the 'Donner Party' snacks. You know, the tender ones.

Having sailed on almost all Voyager and Freedom class ships, all of whom have different names for their "English pubs", we refer to them all as the "Squat and Gobble", which actually was a restaurant/bar close to us.

Oooo, the Squat and Gobble. I'm borrowing that. :)

Reading these brings back lots of similar memories. The maitre d onboard the Sunshine who says nightly, “It’s shoooooooooowtime”. We use that all the time now. When we get to port, our granddaughter calls it dropping the ropes. And of course, mealtimes are often identified by number. Coffee and pastries (room service) is First Breakfast, main dining room breakfast is Second Breakfast, etc.

Also have a selection of songs we use as a pre-cruise CD (Kokomo, Don’t Worry Be Happy, Conga, Walking on Sunshine).

Nothing terribly new or exciting I expect

But

Anything for our cabin "Ask Stewart" came about after one lady asked were all the room attendants really called Stewart.

Mustard Drill - like pretty much everyone.

I count the days till we sail and once we are down to about 40 days I count the hours, I think I annoy the heck out of people at work.

Once I've book I tell the wifey poo at least twice a day, "Hey I've got an idea let's go on a cruise".

I love this thread! Our family always says floor numbers wherever we go because of the cruise elevators that announce what deck you are on :) so when we are anywhere someone always says Deck 5! of course the only place I want to hear that is on a cruise ship haha!

and when crossing onto the ship we always jump over! this always signifies the beginning of a great vacation! Even my 70 something year old parents do it!

 Omigosh. I might be a Donner Party snack. Geez, I'm gonna start to panic if anyone makes eye contact with me during the Muenster drill.

On our grandaughter's first cruise with us we got a last minute upgrade to a suite. They were still in an inside cabin. Our granddaughter asked her parents why Grandma and Grandpa were making them sleep in a closet.

Not particularly creative or funny, but we no longer use the "...of the Seas" designation with RCI ships. We just drop that and say, for example, Allure, Oasis, Freedom, Brilliance, and so on.

Me too. I just say Sensation and Sapphire. Who cares about the names Carnival and Princess being painted on the ships?

To answer the OP's question, if I was to do the same thing, I would call my first cruise the "Hurricane Sandy Cruise." Sandy forced Nassau to close and many of the other passengers got sick.
