HMC Cabana prices

Do the prices of the cabanas on HMC ever get discounted? Just looked at the shore excursions for our stop at HMC and there are lots of the cabanas available for the day, but for me the $299.00 price tag is just way too high, not to mention the larger ones for $599.00. If the price was about $100.00 I might think about, but no more than that.

Anyone ever see them discounted?

Last time we stopped there only two maybe three were rented. Saw no offers, fliers, notices, or whatever advertising discounted cabanas.

IMO , those cabanas have issues :

1- you can't lock them and leave.

2- you will feel like you paid $ so u stay in them till the end when the lines for tendering start and the misery unfolds.

Note : I have not used those before but this info is from being here for a while.

So i agree with Lorene, they are only worth $2.99..lol

I think they had them at $399 IIRC.

In my view, renting a grossly overpriced cabana is a complete waste of money considering the very short time period that one would be using them at HMC! ;)

Our first experience with a cabana was actually when we were invited to share one with a fellow CC'er back in 2004. I guess we've visited some five or six times since and have always gotten a cabana. I'll have to say that our last visit has given us cause to reconsider if we'd get another one when and if we ever visit Half Moon again. It was an absolutely perfect day and we thoroughly enjoyed the cabana until they came around at what we thought was a very early, around 1:30 - 2 PM, to start to close down the cabana. We actually hadn't paid much attention to the departure time, it's not one of the ports where they're really likely to go off and leave you, so we were a bit surprised. Turns out the ship left Half Moon around 3:00-3:30 PM so we had to leave the island around 2:30 PM. In retrospect it seemed like way too short a visit and maybe too expensive considering the shortened visit.

Research. It's the internet age my friend.

But research is no substitute for actual experience.

We've rented the HMC cabanas several times and think they're worth it. I have issues with sun and heat, and those cabanas provide a wonderful respite from those elements while still allowing me to enjoy the beach. We've also done the clamshells, but they are not comparable to the cabanas.

Many will complain about the cost, but IMO it's just another shore ex that we factor into the overall vacation cost. Many cruisers will happily pay for those pre-cruise hotel/transfer packages offered by the cruiselines, which are outrageously overpriced and could be purchased independently for a fraction of the cruiseline price, yet complain about about other cruise related expenses which are part of the cruise experience. The cabanas are a unique experience, and we're willing to pay for it.

We've never had any problems tendering back to the ship after renting a cabana. The only time at HMC that we had a problem returning to the ship was when we rented a clamshell, and that was strictly weather related.

BTW, if you want a cheaper HMC cabana, sail on Carnival. They offer them for a lower price. We did, and the amenities are the same as HAL. What was surprising with Carnival is that they had us go to a lounge on the ship, where we were greeted and escorted directly to the tender, bypassing the tender line. We never had that happen on HAL.

I would never offer an opinion about something that I had not experienced.

The bottom line is that you have to decide whether it is worth it for you, not if it was worth it to others who may not have actual experience.

If i could hijack this thread just for a second - DH is very pale so we have rented a clamshell for our Jan cruise. Is there enough shade in the beach area that we might not need it?

Depending on the time that you arrive, you may have to walk pretty far down the beach to get some shade. Be aware that it's not the type of shade that you'd get under a large oak tree - it's more of a dappled shade. Get the clamshell. It's not expensive.

You will probably need the clamshell. Only rent one - it covers two lounge chairs. If it is a hot day, look for something to "prop" the backend of the clamshell up off the ground to get some air flowing. For me, the clamshells were too hot. I was happier sitting on a bar stool in the "I could stay here forever" bar.

The cabanas were actually $399 until just a short while ago (maybe a couple months ago). I had even called HAL to see if that price would ever drop and they basically just said "no". However, they must have realized that sales at this price point were basically non-existent and decided to go down to $299. It is still more than what Carnival guests are charged, much to my dismay!

We booked one as it will be our first time in HMC. I am excited about not getting "lobstered" out in the direct sun. :p

I've never poked my eyes out or sliced my arm open with a knife but I'm fairly sure I wouldn't like. I don't need the experience to know that. If you like it that's great. More power to you. If others don't, how is that lessening your experience?

If you're looking for a bargain, Give Carnival a try. They sell cabana's for $249.00.

HAL doesn't have a problem selling them at $299.00. Why would they lower the price? The name of the game is to make money, not give things away that might make some people happy.

Being able to see them with my eyes. If you like them that's fine or do we all need to like the same things?

Of course you don't have to like the same things we do. But making overhyped statements about something you have never experienced makes one wonder what your motives are, and casts doubt on your credibility.

Huh? That is outlandish! This is my opinion. I don't get how that's making overhyped statements. I didn't realize your opinion is the only sensible opinion. Thanks for letting me know that:rolleyes:.

While were at it, telling people 100% a day to search for something isn't doing much for me or anyone else.

It wasn't your statement he was referring to. Someone who has never been on a HAL ship, never been to HMC, and never been in a cabana there, was issuing a strong opinion against the cabanas.

CruiserBruce was referring to that statement.

Sure didn't seem that way when my post is the one quoted.

Excuse me Typhoon1, but I was asking a question for the people who are knowledgeable about HMC Cabanas and wondering if they ever are discounted.

I also think that HAL DOES seem to be having a problem selling them at $299.00 since our cruise is less than a month away and there are 15 Cabanas available!

IF I wanted to sail Carnival and get a Cabana with them I could and would do it.

Rude comments like the one you posted are the reason some people don't post on this board and are discouraged from coming here and sailing HAL.
