jenkinscb85 Posted November 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Hello all - I am planning a cruise with my wife in April 2014. This will be our 4th cruise - previously cruised on RC and NCL. We are looking at the Celebrity Silhouette or the Allure of the Seas. This will also be our first cruise without our kids. Which one would you recommend? Go! jenkinscb85 Posted November 17, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Really? It looks like a great ship but I was worried about it being too big and crowded...especially during a spring break time. We've been on the mariner of the seas and it was great but I was looking for more upscale and less kids since we will being cruising sans kiddos! cibumcupio Posted November 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2013 We just had to make the same decision. Though I would love love love to try Allure or Oasis someday for all the shows and the bazillion activities, we ended up with Celebrity this time because it was just going to be the two of us and we want to just relax and reconnect over some great dining. And the free drink package didn't hurt. We are excited to try the Solstice class ships, and will save Allure or Oasis for a cruise with friends and family someday. Less kids, lots of space and more upscale.
micmacmissy Posted November 17, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Without kids? Definitely Celebrity. It would almost be like child abuse to cruise on Allure WITHOUT your kids. :D If you want a side by side comparison, go to http://www.cruisewithgambee.com and look at his photos of both. Laxcoach27 Posted November 17, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) I worked for RCCL in shoreside IT for years until this year. I've been on countless cruises for work, and quite a few for fun. For my money, I always choose celebrity, even with kids. The bells and whistles on Oasis wear off after a day, except maybe the flowrider. Conversely, I find the standard food and upscale dining on celebrity to be much better than Royal. I also find the crowd to be more relaxed and, to some degree, respectful of others. The downside of celebrity, depending on your perspective, is that it tends to be an older median age. I have gone in the middle of the school year and felt like the youngest person on the ship at ~40. On those cruises, the casino can be dead and close really early. I've been kicked out before midnight. Regardless, my wife and I choose celeb every time if they are running an itinerary we want and we aren't negotiating with family.... And I'm on allure next week so I do like royal too. Edited November 17, 2013 by Laxcoach27

Allure wouldn't be too crowded but based on your comment, definitely Celebrity. They're just two different styles of cruising.

Both ships will have more kids on during Easter/Spring Break holiday weeks than when cruising during school term time (just ask AO staff how the numbers increase greatly during these periods). However, X will probably have fewer than RCI. That being said, we're also considering both of these ships for next Easter and we do have children. If you want less kids, you'll definitely need to sail out of the holiday season period ;).
rednancy1 Posted November 17, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Both ships are great but I would go for Celebrity. :)
Tinkerdevil Posted November 17, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I have been on allure and silhouettes sister ship equinox. Allure has way more activities, while silhouette is more relaxed. As a young 20 something (21) on allure and (23) on equinox i much prefer allure, but my parents prefer celebrity.
