Box Wine?

That is a great question. When we travel with a box (always a Black Box product) we pack the entire box because the box is pretty sturdy and is an additional barrier and helps protect the wine bag. We usually do not take the bag out of the box until it is pretty depleted. DW always thinks its a bit gross when the bags our out of the box because the white wines look a little like a bag or urine and the red wines look like blood.

That's funny I thought the same about my white wine. But since I knew what it was I just overlooked it. I took a box one time but took bladder out and put it in a ziploc which seemed to work fine.

I would think that if you took the bag out of the box they would think you were trying to pull something over them and they would just dump it.

I have no problem with the idea of boxed wine. In fact it was my French friend, coming over for a visit 5 years ago that I had my first taste of boxed wine. I was shocked that a Frenchman would drink anything but a bottle of good French wine in light of their abundance and reasonable price. I was surprised how decent the taste was, but then again, it was a French wine.

I have since tried other available boxed wines offered here in the states but I just cannot agree with you that they are acceptable taste-wise. Of course, everyone has their own taste in wine. I totally understand the concept and since I can never finish a bottle of wine in one sitting (not even with my husband) I would definitely buy boxed wine if they just upped the quality a bit more or gave us more options.

Thank you very much, I will read it!!!! But maybe you can tell me what she wrote about it. It will take me for ever to find it. Thank you again!

Working from memory here.....wine package still sold but they discourage you from buying it.

Happy Hour....she posted a photo of hours and some prices.

Based on my experiences this seems to be the prevailing attitude of onboard staff as I've seen zero promotion & if not for CC would never know the wine package existed. Why? The only thing I can think of is that Princess HQ came up with the wine package but onboard staff doesn't want to have it. Thus by not promoting it then staff can tell HQ that it's not wanted. And now they're not only not promoting it they're actively discouraging us from buying it...seems like staff are 'promoting' it's failure. :(

Why do people go to all the trouble of smuggling boxed wine on board that is inferior to that available on the ship?

They are SERVING BOXED WINE on the Royal Princess. I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures of it on the bar in the Crown Grill as well as the Retreat Pool Bar. Was planning to post this info in my review but will add it here as well. The one brand name was Bel Aire in a white box, the other was in a black box but was not Black Box brand.

Walked on with two boxes in carryon fully expecting to pay the corkage fee on Star..no problems. So nice to have a glass of wine in your cabin without calling room service or paying eight dollars for a few sips in The Vines(:

I had two of the small Black Box wines in my checked luggage and they arrived in my cabin with no problem in FLL.

Now I had a 12 pack of cans in my carry on and was promptly escorted to the alcohol table and asked to open my bag by a very proud agent who knew that he had made a bust. Imagine his surprise when I proudly pulled out my 12 pack of TAB.:D He didn't have a clue what it was so I explained that it was diet soda and offered to open one for him if he liked, to which he declined.

He was very disappointed.;)

Anyone have any experiences taking box wine onboard instead of bottles? Can they or do they charge a corkage fee for box wine? Thanks.

Been taking boxed wine on Princess Cruises for years....generally one box per week per two persons. For example, last three week cruise took Merlot,Malbec & a Syrah.Still bought a Platinum Package for dining room consumption $387.00 including gratuity.Box wine doesn't look took good in dining room. Also took 2 cases of water each containing 6 bottles of alcohol....Kettle One and Bacardi! We also enjoyed the bottled water as we mixed it with our flavored sugar free drink mixes and the addition of the Vodka or Rum!;)

And the more people talk about smuggling their wine onboard the more effort every cruise line will put into finding our "beverages". I suggest we forego discussing this issue as we are the ones who likely killed the golden goose in the first place.

Well said. I know as fact that Princess reads CC posts as the captain of at one ship has mentioned this in his greeting to CC M&G.

For years we put a box in with the wives shoe bag, it's a carry on size bag loaded with shoe's, extension cords, box of wine, and power adapters. Never been question when it goes through carryon security. I do not take it through TSA security.
