jsf Posted November 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2013 We're planning an Alaska cruise next August and were wondering what side of the ship might be better. We will book a veranda cabin but what side do you prefer, it is a round trip cruise from Seattle. J.
Northern Aurora Posted November 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I find an Alaska cruise similar to a Panama Canal cruise -- while we book balcony cabins we find ourselves out and about on the upper decks. So for us it really does not matter as to which side of the ship.
Budget Queen Posted November 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Both sides of the ship will have scenery when inside passage. I do recommend the add on ship tour for Tracy Arm, grossly superior. :) These views are forward in the fjords.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I never worry about what side of the ship to be on. I put more emphasis on location on the deck. The best views are from the open areas of the ship. I encourage people to go up to the open deck where you can take in all of the views and quickly move from side to side of the ship. Also try to look from different locations from upper to lower decks. Keith
Rare tupper10 Posted November 30, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2013 On these ships if you can get a quiet aft cabin go for it - you can see everything and not worry about which side you are on.
peety3 Posted December 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 1, 2013 Pick a side, then use the Roll Call to find some "friends" on the other side. :) We sailed starboard side for two northbound cruises, and had my folks in the adjacent cabin for our last cruise. They were new cruisers and the adjacency helped. However, our next cruise is RT Seattle, and we've purposefully chosen opposing sides so we can crash whoever's room has the better view (and we're near lifts so we can go down to 7 quickly and head out).
