We are traveling on the Jewel of the Seas for the 1st time in Jan and traveling from San Juan. Does anyone know when the formal nights are on this cruise? Also, any suggestions for excursions on Martinique and Antigua?

For Antigua, we toured with Lawrence of Antigua. He gave us a full tour of the island, beautiful vistas, the dockyard, and time at the beach. He was a fabulous tour guide, and it was a great value!

We just got back this past Saturday. For Antigua, we spent the money and did the helicopter ride to Montserrat. Worth every penny! Either that or do the Nelson's Dockyard tour, which we've done before and enjoyed.

For Martinique, stay on board. There isn't much to do and the people are not very friendly. JMO.

We rented a car in Antigua and drove around a good portion of the island. It was our first time driving on the opposite side of the road, so while it took a bit of getting used to, we were cautious, and the traffic was favorable. Beautiful island!

We did a similar tour by talking to the taxi people at the pier, they put 8-10 of people in a van (including our 2). Turned out to be a great tour with a great driver and was probably a lot cheaper. I think we only paid 20.00/PP plus the cost of access to teh dockyard (8.00?)

We haven't heard about much to do at Martinique, but we won't stay on the ship when it's a place we've never been. Part of travel is exploring and seeing new places. I've never understood people who recommend "stay on board". That's fine if it's what you want to do, but a pretty lame recommendation for other people.

In Antigua we went on the Eli's Eco Tour a few years ago and loved it. On this trip we will be going on the tour with Lawrence. We have never been to Martinique and our itinerary does not go there so can't comment on that.

The Jewel has several different itineraries, which makes for interesting B2B's. We are doing a B2B in May. Two different itineraries, but a little different than the ones being done right now.

We just did this cruise... We stayed on the ship in Martinique (only got off for a quick peek at town) but one of our fellow cruisers did a tour of a run distillery, I believe. He said it was really great. I'm not sure if his expectations were low, or what. We were on the Jewel, sailed Nov 23. Is recommend checking out our roll call - maybe he can give you more info!!
