What would you eliminate on CCL to get a 25% fare reduction across the board

I started a thread to ask people what they wanted to see return or changed on CCL ships to entice people back to the line. Instead I got met with a lot of feedback by people who said they are happy with the product that is offered now and they don't want things that would raise prices. PERFECTLY FAIR RESPONSE.

But, you know what's I found odd? No one here has said they want a lower price. Isn't that odd? So they are all saying nothing about Carnival could be changed to encourage them to come back more, or more often?

What if I told you that CCL cruise rates would be 25% off what they are today, across the board, what would you be willing to give up to accept that cut? What would you be willing to get rid of to save 25% off of todays fares? We could eliminate MDR breakfast/brunch. We could make it where MDR is dinner ONLY, the rest of the food is on the Lido. We could eliminate towel animals. We could eliminate TV programming. We could eliminate luggage mats for the bed. We could eliminate the sampler toiletry kit.

So many people claim they "could care less" (when they meant "couldn't care less) about making improvements to the product, so now let me put to the community plainly; what would you give up if it meant saving 25% off todays rates. Would it make a difference in you choosing CCL and would you cruise more often at a reduced rate?

Dont give them more ideas, they have taken away enough.

Hey, please come in to the other thread and feel free to make suggestions about things you would like to see restored/changed and if you personally would be willing to see a fare increase to have them, if so how much, etc.

I guess you answer for here is that you don't want more taken away and the fares are low enough now for your comfort and that you wouldn't want any more cuts made to reduce the fares. ?

Just so you know, the sample toiletries that you mentioned are free of cost for the cruise line. They are free advertising for the companies whose products are there, just like a sample you would receive in the mail.

Please remove this thread. If Carnival sees that the customers will allow other things to be cut then they will likely do so.

Soon it will just be a metal hull and things that resemble beds. Carnival will be rebranded with Wal-Mart colors. They will introduce a Brilliant, Ground BReaking, Industry Shattering new category of rooms - combined room lodging. You'll share a large room (say, 30'x30') with 20-50 other cruisers, stacked 2-4 high depending on your cruise fare.

This way they can cram 5 times as many people onto a ship and really drive profits through the roof.

They could eliminate any of the Branded venues like the George Lopez Comedy Club or the Guy's burgers. They probably paid a pretty penny to use those names.......same goes with the new Dr. Seuss branding.

+1

A huge waste of money, IMHO. Guy might have had his hands in a bit but I doubt Lopez did anything otyher than film those introduction videos.

Food costs are way way way way lower on CCL. Food costs per person on board for a 7 day are around $53/person.

Yeah, why eliminate the pools? I may live where it's warm but I also realize that a week long caribbean cruise is a lot of folks only opportunity once a year to enjoy a pool. I think wanting to eliminate that for a fare reduction you are going to find yourself on your own with.

I don't even see how that would be practical? The pools are built into the structure of the ship. What do you do, board it up and play dizzy bat?

WOW 25% That's a big price cut.

Here are some the big things our cruise fare pays for. (cruise fare is 100%)

Fuel 20%

Payroll 15%

Food 8%

All the other stuff like Commissions, Sales and Marketing, Interest, Ship Maintenance etc. take up the rest.

So if we chop 50% off each of the Fuel, Payroll and Food costs we could get close to a 25% reduction in the cruise fare. Hmmm, But how?

Fuel. Cut that cost by just not going anywhere. Pull out of Port, go out 20 or 30 miles and drift for 7 days. Hey, who needs another trip to Nassau or Freeport anyways.

Payroll and Food. Cut the wait and kitchen staff entirely. We won't need them because dining will be prepacked baloney sandwiches. Yummy! Can't wait.;)

I wonder which wine pairs best with baloney?

I'm fine with the rates as they are. Carnival gives a nice cruise experience for a reasonable price in most cases. And if you book far enough in advance, you can save 25% or more on your own from your original booking simply watching for price reductions. Their fares fluctuate so often, they don't need to drop the starting points on anything IMO. If I go on a land based cruise, I'm typically going to spend more for almost round the clock food, gym access, pools, entertainment (whether I like it or not), transportation to island hop, and accommodations. On my last trip, I missd the midnight buffet, but totally see why they got rid of it. I can't image all the food that was wasted. Nothing needs to be eliminated.

Charge for room service and only allow one entree, one trip to the buffet, etc. Sick of seeing all the wasted food and the size of the people shoveling it down at the buffet.

If complainers want better shows charge them for a ticket. Better meal try the steakhouse.
