Cruise Alternatives

I am looking for help. My expecting wife and I really enjoy cruising and we had our hearts set on taking another in January as a baby moon. Unfortunately we have come to find out my wife will be too far along (26 weeks) to be allowed to cruise.

I really want to provide my wife with a relaxing and fun vacation, perhaps the last in some time with our new one here in spring, but am striking out in finding alternative options.

We have done the all inclusive thing in the past prior to our cruising, but I usually get bored with that type of vacation after a few days. Let me know if you have any fun warm weather vacation ideas that would be a substitute to a cruise. TIA :)

January....hmmmm. You are already looking at high air and hope you are still outside the 21 day advance.

Think Caribbean with city and country - San Juan comes to mind. You can stay at one of the beach resorts, wander in Old San Juan, and spend a day in the rain forest. The island of Barbados is another.

You don't have to do all inclusive. That is one advantage of a city stay in the Caribbean. Many of the islands, like Aruba, have night life and casinos.

Good luck, your timing isn't great, but I guess you already know that, and by January you'll do just about anything to get our of the cold.

Hawai'i.

Get a rental home or condo on whichever island most interests you.

Have a fun trip.

Another option would be a different all inclusive, they are most certainly not all the same. Which did you go to before? Have you tried Club Med?

We LOVE Sarasota....specifically, Lido Key.....beautiful gulf waters, shopping within walking distance, along with some really fine restaurants. I don't know if it would excite you for an entire week, but it sure it a nice place to be! Golf is nearby, too....hubby loves that! In Jan, it could be too chilly for beach things.

January in most of the country is cold....so if you want a "beach" style vacation, you're pretty much limited to Fl. or Hawaii!

I would suggest Puerto Rico or Hawaii, but at 26 weeks pregnancy, how would she feel sitting in the tight seat? Disney cruises allow babies on board from 3 months, other cruise lines from 6 months (maybe not all of them?)

Absolutely fantastic! Hubby and I went there in July one year and while the spa experience, food, amenities, etc. were superb, the July heat was way too much for us so we did not get outdoors too much.

January might be the perfect time to be there particularly for a pregnant woman who might like some pampering.

To find plenty of recommendations, go to your favorite search engine. Type in "best places for a babymoon" and browse through all the choices. There could be a gem in there that none of us could come up with!!!

One of the things I always do when I am thinking of a trip is to do my search, then dive in to sites that look interesting. It gives a broader choice than just going to a specific interest site (like CC)…I found my absolute favorite travel group this way (AdventureWomen)!!!

I'll be the Debbie Downer on this one................sorry!

During my first pregnancy I vacationed twice and regretted each trip. Your wife will be entering her third trimester and from my own experience you do tire easily and find it more difficult to be comfortable.

Look for vacations that you can easily drive to and it's a good idea to be reasonably close to a medical facility. Of course, I'm sure your wife will check with her OB and make sure it's OK to travel.

Maybe stay at a lovely hotel/spa in a nearby city and go museums, etc. Wherever she can stop and rest whenever she needs to. A vacation with little stress would be best.

Perhaps an extra long weekend in Chicago and shop, see some shows, eat at fabulous restaurants, etc. Maybe not big excitement, but it could be a lovely way to bond before the baby.

Good Luck!

A lot depends on how far you are willing to travel, and whether it is done by driving or flying. Flying into Ontario, CA (on Southwest perhaps), you would only have a one hour drive to Palm Springs. Or fly into Phoenix and enjoy the desert when it's not unbearably hot. Scottsdale has some wonderful hotels with pampering spas, quiet meals together, just relaxing- and out of the snow! You could also consider flying down to Grand Cayman or over to the Bahamas for a beach babymoon. Best wishes!

I have to say I was thinking the same thing. I had to travel to a major city 4 hrs away by train when 32 wks pregnant with my first and it was not what I had imagined it to be. Even though I could put my feet up and walk around, I couldn't get comfortable. Staying in a hotel was fine, but I certainly didn't have the endurance I usually do to walk around and tour. Someplace where I could out my feet up and read a good book would have been great lol!

I'd echo the comment of finding a nearby location that is new to you or somewhere that isn't a long flight away. DH and I did a babymoon at a local resort and had a blast.
