papaflamingo Posted December 21, 2013 #26 Share Posted December 21, 2013 We go to the first bar on the ship we see and have a drink. We take a photo on our cell phone of us at the bar and text it to our friends and family. We always call our kids as we begin sailaway. We board the ship with in "flamingo clothes" (a shirt for men and sweater or blouse for women with flamingos on it). Always get a group boarding photo. meatball_nyc Posted December 21, 2013 #27 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Get on board as early as possible and then we run up and down the empty halls! Grab a drink and lunch then up to top deck port side for SAILAWAY! Paulette3028 Posted December 21, 2013 #28 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Just before we walk up the gangway we step aside hold hands and declare " "we are leaving all our troubles and worries here on the dock. They are not going on this ship with us if we miss them we can pick them up when we come back." come to think of it might not work so well on a T/A, however I've never been on one. Don't worry -- if you are on a T/A cruise and those 'troubles and worries' can't seem to find someone else to 'invade' they will make take a flight to meet up with you at some later date. GTO-Girl Posted December 21, 2013 #31 Share Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) We always board in our matching Jimmy Buffet t-shirts that say "One Love One Ocean". They were ordered from a benefit concert for the Gulf Coast people who were affected by the BP oil spill. Needless to say they are beginning to show their age a bit, but we still love to wear them:D Edited December 21, 2013 by GTO-Girl
papcx Posted December 21, 2013 #32 Share Posted December 21, 2013 I've downloaded the Simpsons song, "Enjoy it while you can" from when the Simpsons did a cruise, onto my iPhone. I play it to DW and myself half way through each cruise to remind us we're nearer to the end than the beginning, so live every minute that's left. I suggest you look it up, it's a very good piece of observational humour by Steve Cogan.

Warsawcruisers Posted December 24, 2013 #36 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We always fly in a day before We head straight up to the Windjammer We always get on the ship early so we can take pictures and explore before the crowds come We go to the dining room to see where our table will be located. By then its time to go to our cabin and we can unpack our luggage and read the first night's activities. We do the exact same thing. Got all the excursions, dining, etc booked prior to boarding. Now it is fun time.

Paulette3028 Posted December 24, 2013 #38 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We do the exact same thing. Got all the excursions, dining, etc booked prior to boarding. Now it is fun time. We also book our excursions ahead of time, and although we might spend a few more dollars going directly through RCCL, we feel it is sensible to do it that way. hsaroya Posted December 24, 2013 #39 Share Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Traditions: Fly in the day before - out of necessity given the weather in our parts and the fact that it's usually a 10 hr flight due to layovers. Second tradition is to get up early the next morning and walk from our traditional pre-cruise hotel (LaQuinta Airport) for a ROSS run. Always manage to find at least one MDR outfit for each of us. Then walk over to the neighbouring Kmart for all the toiletries and laundry detergent we didn't have room for in our bags. Then off to the Dollar Tree for the kids' Gatorade. Gotta like Oakwood Plaza, even if the locals don't think much of it! Sigh...this is the first time in 7 yrs that we've broken the tradition of the Christmas cruise - flights to Fort L were almost double from last year. And, yes, I am still bitter and depressed! :( Edited December 24, 2013 by hsaroya
57redbird Posted December 24, 2013 #40 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Spend the night before at the San Diego Marriott Downtown Courtyard. When on board the ship, locate the 'perfect' table in the MDR & make reservations for it.

hillbilly73 Posted December 25, 2013 #43 Share Posted December 25, 2013 As soon as we can get into our cabin, we drop our carry-ons, I grab DH's hands and bounce around like a kangaroo doing my happy dance while singing "We're going on a cruise, we're going on a cruise." DH just smiles, rolls his eyes  and holds my hands tightly so I don't hurt myself. It never gets old. LOL Smooth Sailing! :) :) :) Best post I have read in awhile you can't help but smile after reading it.

cruiseecuree Posted January 7, 2014 #46 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Tulsa Tom....LOVE your tradition!!!.... We are using it on our FIRST CRUISE in Feb ...... " Just before we walk up the gangway we step aside hold hands and declare ..."we are leaving all our troubles and worries here on the dock. They are not going on this ship with us if we miss them we can pick them up when we come back." :) I love seeing others from Ontario. I live in Hamilton. I did a cruise for my honeymoon and loved it. We are counting down to our 2nd cruise which we will do over March break. You will love it. We've done 2 all inclusive resorts and they don't compare. Enjoy
EdmPair Posted January 7, 2014 #47 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I always make sure I get to the ship before it sails! Me too. We also go to for supper each night and try new foods including desserts.
GlendaleCruiser Posted January 7, 2014 #48 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Always fly in the day before the cruise. If it's a place I've never been or want to explore, we'll go in three days before and see the sites and sights. Always unpack completely as soon as we get into the cabin. Walk into my cabin for the first time and say, "HONEY, I'M HOME!"
