justluv2cruisewithhubby Posted December 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2013 We booked a cruise for next year and I had a few questions I hope you can answer. Is the Maasdam being remodeled in 2014? Do they have a small movie theatre for movies? Do they still provide the NY Times daily Do they have the after dinner mints when you exit the dining room? How many formal nights on a 6 night cruise? Do they still have breakfast menus that change daily with an international theme? Thanks in advance
CruiserBruce Posted December 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2013 We booked a cruise for next year and I had a few questions I hope you can answer. Is the Maasdam being remodeled in 2014? Do they have a small movie theatre for movies? Yes. If you look on the deck plan for the ship, it is called the Wajang Theatre. Do they still provide the NY Times daily The fleetwide answer is yes. Do they have the after dinner mints when you exit the dining room? Yes How many formal nights on a 6 night cruise? Either one or two. You will know the official answer when your boarding passes are available 50 days out. Do they still have breakfast menus that change daily with an international theme? Don't recall any such variation for breakfast...but we eat in the Lido all the time. Thanks in advance See answers in red.
sail7seas Posted December 31, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2013 I agree with Bruce's responses and add the breakfast menu is the same every morning in MDR and it is extensive. In six days, you couldn't begin to try everything and there are 'international' offerings on that menu.

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 31, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2013 How can you access NYT ONLINE without Internet Acess ? Am I missing something here ? I don't take a laptop anymore. If I want to read some more news other than the condensed NYTimes, I use the ship's computer. I forget where you click onto the computer and you have a couple of choices of free reading -- HAL's site and the New York Times. It is free. The times and names of the movies are listed in the daily On Location program. Free popcorn when the movies are shown. The condensed NY Times is no longer delivered to the cabins. You can get one in the library or the Lido or the front desk. According to this schedule, the Maasdam is due for a dry dock Jan 3 - 16, 2014: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1940858&highlight=charters+and+dry+docks

justluv2cruisewithhubby Posted December 31, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted December 31, 2013 Thank you all for the information. We have missed the small touches that HAL offers compared to other cruise lines. I feel like we have returned back home.
innlady1 Posted December 31, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2013 Yonnie mentions the dry dock that is upcoming in January...before our cruise at the end of January. I will report back if I find significant changes, but usually a dry dock just refreshes the ship, so to speak. And they attempt to make repairs where needed. Not usually a "remodel". sail7seas Posted December 31, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2013 How can you access NYT ONLINE without Internet Acess ? Am I missing something here ? You can visit NY Times and HAL from ship's computers in Exploration Cafe or your own without having an internet package. There is no charge to read those sites while aboard. On the 'log in page' when you try to access internet, there is a box on the right side where you can click to go to NYT or HAL.

In the south, a handful can mean two.:) Last month on the Ryndam, I only remember seeing NY Times, which I accessed several times, and the HAL site, which I didn't access.
