jo24 Posted January 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2014 The first time I sailed Allure and stopped in Nassau, I took a trip (organised through the ship) to Blue Lagoon Island. It was absolutely gorgeous. Nice boat ride over and the chance to see some of the coast and a few hours on a fairly quiet beach. They have a place for lunch and we had a ticket included from RCI and a little gift shop. They also have the option to go in a pool with dolphins or sealions. DonnaK Posted January 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Cable Beach is beautiful. You can get there by cab, or by taking the local bus. There are two resorts which offer day passes. For more information, check it out on the Ports of Call board
KeywestK Posted January 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2014 If you are traveling with children, I recommend Blue Lagoon....it's a quick taxi ride to get there. If it's just adults, we like Cable Beach. We took the public bus (about 1 block north of the Straw Market,) and it was about a 20 minute bus ride to the Wyndham Resort. Day passes the last time we were there were $40 pp. Bus was $1.25 (I think) and you must have exact amount. A lot of people complain about Nassau. We always have a fun day there! tominabox1 Posted January 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Lots of the resorts have private beaches you can access for a small fee. The Sheraton is a 5 minute bus ride and is far enough away that many people don't go there. I think it is $25 for a day pass. We have also gone to the Hilton right by port and also RIU on Paradise Island. RIU was more expensive but it was all inclusive, lunch and drinks included. Just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" to check the Bahama boards before making plans.

When we visited in September on the Allure, we just went to Sr. Frogs.
Cookiecookie Posted January 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I would back up what others have said,we spent the most relaxing 5 hours ever on the Blue Lagoon Beach, we booked it with RCI. The price included the boat ride, sun beds and parasol. Also flotation mats etc and BBQ food at lunchtime. --------------- Gaynor Canadian Rockies / Alaska cruise tour. Kimahri Posted January 3, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Another vote for Blue Lagoon beach We went to the beach directly behind the lunch area and pretty much had the beach to ourselves the entire day. We brought with our snorkel gear and felt like we had our own private island.

I just checked for our Majesty cruise in February and the only Blue Lagoon trips are for the Dolphin Adventures or an observer. I am not seeing a generic beach day trip. TYIA. mabkcruisers Posted January 4, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Just curious....it has been a few years since we were in Nassau. On our last trip we paid for the excursion to Blackbeard's Cay. Is Blue Lagoon the same thing just renamed? Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
jbrehmer Posted January 4, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Blue Lagoon was our favorite excursion. You can find videos of it on YouTube to see what it looks like. It was so relaxing!
Cookiecookie Posted January 4, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Thinking about the Blue Lagoon, I seem to remember someone else said they tried to book it for early 2014 an the beach excursion was not available because they were due to start some work on this part of the Island. I think you can email Blue Lagoon direct to get this confirmed. -------------------- Gaynor Canadian Rockies / Alaska Cruise tour August 2014 Oasis of the Seas August 2013 Independence of the Seas August 2009
reney313 Posted January 4, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I loved Blue Lagoon. I would go to their website or call to see if the beach is open or if they are doing upgrades. I really preferred it as just "a beach" so I hope not too many improvements! If it is all good, then you can do it as DIY. Take a taxi to the ferry and pay there for the beach day. The ferry you take there and back will be the same as those on the dolphin/sea lion excursions. I also have enjoyed Cable Beach. I haven't bought a day pass there before. In the past (and it has been at least 7 years but we went numerous times in a row), we were able to walk through the casino there and use the beach for free. No amenities or beach chairs (those were for guests) but the beach itself is free. You might want to verify this ability with someone who has been there more recent since it has been quite awhile since I've been on cable beach. OHRiverRats Posted January 4, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 4, 2014 The next time we dock in Nassau we will be going to Paradise Island. The last time we walked through town and up to Junkanoo Beach. It was filthy. We wound up going back to the ship and enjoying the uncrowded hot tubs!
Kimahri Posted January 4, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 4, 2014 The actual name of the excursion is Blue Lagoon deluxe beach break. I looked it up to see if I could find it in the shore excursion and it showed up on the 2nd page in the Nassau section. It's $65 pp I was thinking maybe they have it posted in the general information but for those booked already it's not showing up because of reason mentioned above by other people. mabkcruisers Posted January 5, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 5, 2014 The beach day option wasn't showing up at all for our upcoming cruise. I tried to find it elsewhere online and ended up on a Bahamas snorkeling site that links you to Blue Lagoon. They are showing that the beach day isn't available on Thursdays (when we will be there) or Sundays.
