Are we too young for Celebrity??

I just wanted to point out that your 7 year old is welcome to dine with you at Qsine.

Actually, the only restaurant that kids are not allowed to dine in is the upscale French one (e.g., Murano on S Class ships). They are welcome at all others.

Are you sure ? Because when I check the restaurant on the website most of them say 10 and up ! ! ! I'll look into it again...

We are the same in our 40's and our kids are almost out of the house. We cruise celebrity and royal often. When looking to just relax and be pampered we choose celebrity as we can entertain ourselves. Also only celebrity when in Europe as so port intensive just need a great "hotel".

If we are looking to have an active vacation we choose royal. They have quest, love and marriage show, comedians, active night clubs.

Celebrity has more speakers, trombone players, singers etc. Our last celebrity cruise a movie we went to was the only "show" we laughed at the whole cruise. Also we are usually some of the youngest on celebrity.

Enjoy your cruise we've never had a bad one

we were 30 and 25 when we took the first cruise on solstice and got hooked.

we love the relaxed atmosphere without much animation and such.

agreed, if we want to do heavy partying, there's better places than celebrity ships.

that being said, out of the crew and 2800+ something guests, there's always a few that don't go to bed at 2200 ;-) it may actually be more comfortable to have only < 100 youngsters on board than being on a party boat where everyone wants the same things at the same time.

due to season, all our cruises have been in the caribbean, which supposedly attracts a younger crowd. but even on the 14day cruise it wasn't bad at all.

in any case, we never felt out of place but did get a few heads turned sometimes. i credit that to my wife *LOL*

also, we met a lot of active, cheery and young-at-heart elderlies, and it's the spirit and mindset what really matters.

as long as they're not grumpy, nasty to the crew etc...

also, we felt we sometimes got more personable service simply by being friendly to the crew, being about their age and coming from europe... just not their usual fare and them getting curious and chatty.

unfortunately Quasar (the disco on the S-class ships) never really got going, however i never felt because of lack of a dancing crowd. i believe it had more to do with poor scheduling / timing and quite a few other good alternatives such as the skyview lounge, live music, martini bar, late night comedy etc... all drawing from the same pool of guests.

also on the last cruise, we enjoyed a solo guitar player immensely, which played sets almost every night at different venues.

there are (sometimes excellent) filipino cover bands as well.

and it is with great joy that i read in the forums that apparently the music is being a little tweaked towards a younger crowd now. 80's/90's and todays music was lacking other than in the cabin entertainment system.

enjoy your cruise!

Thanks so much for all of the replies! You guys are the best!

We are very much looking forward to our first Celebrity experience next month. I know we will find plenty, or nothing, to do if we so choose! I can't wait!

I just wish we had one more day at sea to really get to explore and appreciate all the ship has to offer. It will be a whirlwind for sure!

It's funny I asked the same question this time last year in planning a med cruise for 2014. My wife and I are a "young" 45&52. We had the exact same concerns about being on a cruise with a bunch of older people. Then we figured out we were one of "them" (older crowd) so just went with it. We are now just over 5 months from our June cruise on the Reflection. Can't wait!

Cheers!

How long is your cruise? If it is 7 nights, you will find a younger crowd and the dance floor will be full. I always sail a 2 weeks Caribbean cruise and I must say that I am one of the younger ones on board - and I am 60. Lots of walkers on my cruises. I don't mind because it is my yearly sailing with my mom, but when we started sailing this agenda I was in shock. Even the last time we sailed (last Jan.) at 11:30pm you can roll up the corridors - almost no one is around, even at the casino. Only a handful of children on these sailings. The shorter cruises have a much younger crowd.

We found this to be the case also. We sailed on the Summit a few years ago. we are in our 40's, and we were some of the youngest on the ship. In fact, there were so few children, that they didn't even open the children's camp program. That being said, we had a great time and everyone we met was a lot of fun.:)

there were times however, when we would leave the dance club or casino, and roam around, it seemed like we were the only people still awake.

We love X. We are gong again next year. I can't wait.

Wow... Thanks so much for all of the replies! I am now getting so excited for this cruise!

We were on your Summit cruise last year. We had a wonderful cruise with the highlight being the itinerary.

This is a very port intensive cruise so you have the option of wiping yourselves out with physically demanding tours.

We had a blast. Our cruise had very few children on it,less then 75. As a guess I'd say the average age of the adults was about 50.

Not to get into a fight but they were thinner and more active then the average North American.

(Sorry for the extreme over-generalization).

I'm 41, wife is 40. We've been cruising X since our 20s. It has always been a good choice for us. We can find space to relax, or go looking for the party when we want to. I'm pretty good at enjoying a martini in a wing back chair while listening to jazz, but I will admit to busting a move at Quasar, killing some karaoke, and I have also jumped in for a volleyball game in the pool!

  • 8 months later...

My Girlfriend and I will be on a 15 night sailing from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale in November 2015. We'll be 25 at the time and while I have sailed Celebrity before with my parents when I was younger, she has only sailed RCCL and Carnival.

She likes to go out and dance in the evenings, since it's a longer cruise, will there be opportunities for us to do that on the Infinity? Or will we be the youngest ones there by a long shot?

I know it's a long way off, but any feedback is appreciated!

Hi, you will probably be in the "younger set" for sure, but don't worry

about it:)......15 night cruises usually have an older demographic...

usually because many younger folks can't take 2 weeks off in a row

from work. Heck, I am 56 and can't always get 2 weeks off in a row;)

As for dancing, there is the Rende Veux Lounge located outside

of the dining room.....dancing before and after dinner. There is usually

a trio or quartet...singer, drummer, guitar and keyboards.

Also, there is a disco all the way at the front of the ship, all the

way up top and they normally have a band and/or DJ up there.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise:D

Ha, yeah, two weeks in a row is nigh on impossible, we're trying to see if we can pull it off - especially over Thanksgiving, neither of us are American so we don't have a problem spending it on a cruise :-)

That's great, I've cruise the Infinity before, but the last was probably 7 years ago! Is it still looking good? was the Solsticizing good to it?

You will be fine... Although Celebrity tends to market to the 40 to 70 demographic there are usually some aboard who are both older & younger. I am sure you will meet up with others... And if you have Traditional Dining, Celebrity usually does a good job at matching folks in the same age range with common interests.

Besides, your cruise although longer does include Thanksgiving... So there could be some families aboard as well (knowing that often Private Schools may have an extended mid term break then)

So a wider mix overall

How much fun you guys have will be up to you two as well... As I always say about vacations... Changes in latitude require changes in attitude.

Cheers!

The answer to your question is highly dependent on date of sailing, length of sailing, and itinerary.

One thing you will find on the 7 night out of San Juan is that there are going to be quite a few local families. You won't be overrun with young children by any means, although we sailed it the week after Thanksgiving and were told that the prior week had twice as many children as usual.

This is a port-intensive cruise and I think you'll find the nightlife suffers a bit because of that. You and everyone else will be tired. But, I think you'll also find it a somewhat younger group of passengers. Don't misunderstand--you two will be on the younger side of the ledger.

Generally speaking you'll find a lot of life at the Martini Bar. If club dancing is what you want, the nightclub onboard will be hit or miss. To me the casino is just an obstacle course to walk through, so I can't comment on that one.

The best nightlife we have probably ever seen on a Celebrity ship was our Med sailing last year on the Equinox. The Martini Bar was packed every night. We're doing the 10 night Ultimate Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale over Thanksgiving this year and even though it's a similar length of cruise and the same ship, I don't expect nearly the same level of nightlife. Again, it's all very dependent on the particulars of the cruise.

I do think the San Juan cruise is a great one and it'll give you a good feel for whether Celebrity is your cup of tea (or beer).

Last cruise on the Summit I met a TA who told us since the introduction of the free drinks pkg she is booking a lot more 20s and 30s. The Martini Bar is always hopping and on the Summit they moved some of the "games" to Revelations followed by the dancers from the show dancing with us! Very high energy. Lots of fun!

I think you will be fine that time of year. We were on the Summit the week of 8/31 there were 59 kids on board (as told to me by the kid's club director). The week prior there were 500. So it really depends on school schedules if you will encounter a lot of kids. BTW we are 52 and 54 and found a lot to keep us interested. Most of the party events, such as Disco Night, The White Party....started around 11:30 pm. We went to Disco Night, and it was packed. Didn't make it to the White Party but I heard it was fun.

You'll find there are all ages onboard, and they all seem to have fun. Martini Bar and also Qsine have a young vibe. The casino appeals to all ages (21 and over, that is). And you can always some fun activity to participate in. You'll have a great time. Enjoy!

I'm in my 20s and DH in his 30s. I just booked a second cruise on the Summit with my Mom and friend for my birthday after doing the same cruise in January with my husband. We didn't feel too young by any means. It is definitely quieter than RCCL and Carnival but it's definitely our cruise line of choice now. We definitely caught the Celebrity bug.
