We will be traveling into FL after a long flight and looking for a hotel location within a mile or two to the port which has a few shops and restaurants near by. I am not familiar with the area and there are loads of hotels. Any location suggestions would be appreciated.

There are a number of hotels on 17th ave SE. They are a mile or so from the entrance to the port. Among other stores there is a Publix (grocery store) and Total Wines & More (all liquids - wine, beer, booze, soda, etc.). We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express 1500 SE 17TH STREET CAUSEWAY

FORT LAUDERDALE FL 33316

Front Desk: 1-954-7282577

We always stay at Embassy Suites on 17th St. We walk to groceries, dinner, liquor, Ross Dress for Less across the street, dollar store and enjoy a view of the port from the hotel. The hotel includes a nice breakfast and a evening reception of drinks and snacks. Then get a shuttle to the port from there for $8 each.

I grew up in Ft Lauderdale. 17th street causeway is a good bet. Embassy suites is very nice and there is a big shopping behind it. Good area. Stay clear of State Road 84 and Federal Highway. (especially Ramada and Red Carpet inn.

Thanks guys. Think I will look for something around 17th ave SE. Seems like a good location especially as we get in late afternoon and I will probably to tired to venture to far.

We gave stayed at the Embassy Suites both pre and post cruise for many years.

The Harbor Shops are right behind the hotel. There is Publix (grocery store for items that you may have forgotten), Total Wine if you are allowed to take a couple of bottles on board, restaurants, several stores. There is also another strip mall within walking distance.

Embassy Suites has free a complete breakfast -- eggs made to order, etc. There is also a managers cocktail party each evening from 5:30 to 7:30 0 usually held in E-Spot -- a restaurant in the hotel.

No free shuttle to the port. But you can sign up for shuttle service -- $8 per person. Or do what we do -- take a taxi to the pier. Usually it is about $10 total plus tip.

We like Hyatt Place on 17th SE, it is right next to the Embassy and is much more reasonably priced and has a shuttle service to the port. It has a breakfast that is good enough to tide you over till you get on the ship. It very close to the Harbor Shops.
