sparky-elpaso Posted January 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2014 We're going to be in London from Aug. 24 thru 27, 2014. I just found out that Monday, Aug 25 is a bank holiday. Should I think about booking our hotel and a tour we want to take that day pretty soon?

Should I think about booking our hotel and a tour we want to take that day pretty soon? I've just returned to Scotland after living many years in England, mainly in the London area. August Bank Holiday is traditionally a time when people enjoy family time before the children return to school so often head to the coast more than to cities. IMO London shouldn't be that much busier on Bank Holiday weekend than other times throughout August. In fact lots of office-workers will have the holiday so the underground might not be so frantic. You'll still find shops, restaurants etc open pretty much as normal. Having said that, it's always good to book early and get your first choice of hotel and tours
cweather Posted January 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2014 I too will be there at that time and planned on visiting the many sites London offers. Would places like the London Eye, museum, etc. still be open on that day?
Cotswold Eagle Posted January 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Yes, they will, but it is a good idea to check for any alterations to opening times. Also some public transport may operate to Sunday or weekend timetables.
SteveH2508 Posted January 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2014 It is also the Notting Hill Carnival that weekend, which could alter your travel plans for that part of London.
sparky-elpaso Posted January 18, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Thanks for all your answers. I knew I could count on CC folks. :) From what I can tell our tour will be operating that day.
cweather Posted January 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2014 We will be in London 2 days prior to our cruise. One day we were going to do a side trip to Bath and Stonehenge. Since the Notting Hill Carnival will be going on when we are there, do you think it would be best on Monday to do our side trip to Stonehenge and save site seeing London on Tuesday when the carnival is finished.
