Island Crazed Posted January 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Two members of our party of 4 have medication that is stored in the frig. It probably needs the space of an average shoe box. If we request a "real" frig, where will they put it? Space is an issue with 4 in a cabin! If I feel that the "beverage cooler" will do, can I use this as a reason to ask them to empty it? The room cooler or fridge is not safe for refrigerated meds. My daughter has one refrigerated med and I keep it iced in my own cooler. I have read the refrigerator Carnival supplies for meds is like a small bar fridge.

SadieN Posted January 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Might want to also ask on the Disabled Cruising Board.
christopher Posted January 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2014 check with your travel agent or Carnival booking agent. Some rooms have refrigeraters and some do not. you may need to change rooms to get one with a frig. and yes i used the frig or mini bar frig to keep my drugs cold. DANCING GRANDMOMMY Posted January 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2014 If the fridge is not an option for you I would think you could put it in the dispensary. You just want to make sure of the hours of operation and schedule her dosage around that.
cccer Posted January 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2014 They can empty the fridge for you to put the meds in, but as others have said it might not be cold enough.

We had meds last time on the dream and the room fridge was not cool enough We took it to guest services and they put it in a real fridge We went each night and gave our son his shot. It ended up being quite easy (they had us use the priority line which sped things up)
riclop Posted January 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Call Carnival.
ready2cruzagain Posted January 22, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2014 The coolers in the cabins are just that...coolers. I would never keep meds that need refrigeration in them. If you are worried about room since there is 4 in your cabin, I would just have Guest Services keep it.
tallyho8 Posted January 23, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 23, 2014 Maybe I've been lucky but every time I cruised on Carnival my frig was working fine and kept my beer ice cold though it does take a little longer to cool things down than a regular refrigerator. ccruisequeen Posted January 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 23, 2014 I've read that if you keep the outer door open a crack it cools it a bit more. I need cool milk at night for my meds, so I hope if I get it in the afternoon it will still be ok. If not I'll have to get room service. Rare mking8288 Posted January 23, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 23, 2014 The typical cooler box on cruise ships do not have user-adjustable thermostat and is fixed, usually somewhere between 45 to 55 degree F, too high & dangerous for keeping most medicine - check with your doctor and/or pharmacist, or contact the manufacturer of the Rx's helpline. It helps if you bring a thermometer. Nursing staff in our primary care clinic log & check the medication refrigerator's daily temperature twice, and the temperature range is from 36 to 46 degree F, depending on the med's API - guidelines do change but they're trained to adjust the thermostat to keep it as close to 37 or 38 degreesas possible, and no higher than 41 or 42 degrees (frequently door opening/closing) Contact CCL ahead of sailing date with your special needs, and re-confirm when you check in at the pier or upon boarding.
