3Boogity Posted January 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Has anyone had their luggage inspected for contraband? Just found out that we are only allowed 1 bottle of wine each on our February sailing.
boulders Posted January 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Your luggage is x-rayed upon boarding.
jtl513 Posted January 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I would bet that they will be especially diligent looking for smuggling for the first few months. boulders - congratulations on your 3,000th post and promotion to "Blue Ribbon"! ... Krazy Kruizers Posted January 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Since the new rule concerning the amount of wine you can bring onto the ship hasn't started yet, there is no telling how HAL will be enforcing the new ruling. And remember that the wine you do bring onto the ship must be in your carry-on and no bigger than 750 ml.
frankc98376 Posted January 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2014 You will likely get a note that the suitcase has gone to the "naughty room" if they see something suspicious on the x-ray. You will need to pick it up there as they need you present when they search the bag. A woman we met on Oosterdam had to go down there as she had packed a small travel iron. The iron was safe and returned at the end of the cruise. Same with unauthorized alcohol- I believe the policy is that they hold all unopened bottles until the last night and any previously opened bottles are sent ashore for disposal for security reasons. RJ2002 Posted January 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2014 We haven't ever had our bags opened, but with the new wine policy, I'll bet that it starts happening more often IF more folks start trying to smuggle wine/liquor in their checked luggage. OVgirl Posted January 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2014 I think for the first little while(months maybe), the ships will be storing a lot of bottles of wine. I'm guessing that the majority of passengers are not aware of the new policy and might be bringing a few extra bottles as they did on past cruises.
