Quick Question: Vapor Pens

Actually, rum runners do make me nuts - and so I've simply learned to avoid those threads ahead of time (forewarned is forearmed). It makes me furious if I think about all those people proud about smuggling and thinking that it's OK to violate whatever rules don't please them.

 

I smuggle on 4 bottles of wine instead of the 2 allowed!

I have recently started vaping instead of smoking cigarettes. There is no tar in the vapor and the only smell is from the fruity flavors of e-liquid I use. I am sailing on carnival in September and I am wondering if they consider vapor pens to be "e-cigarettes" in their smoking policy. (Vaping is allowed all places smoking is not where I'm from, as there is no second hand smoke or odor)

If you are using any of the fruity flavours there is indeed a smell some quite strong like someone has used too much perfume or aftershave and can bring on migraines if you are allergic to strong smells.

Gum does not have such a strong odor as to cause headaches but some perfumes not only can give me a headache but can make it hard for me to breathe.

Actually, a growing number of places (eg offices, clinics, schools, churches) are going "scent free", and perfumes, strongly scented hair products or antiperspirants, etc are forbidden. Likewise scented candles and potpourri, etc.

no cruise employee is going to have the jewels to tell grandma she has on too much perfume!

 

no one in a church is going to tell granny she has on to to much perfume sorry there's the door.

Well, yeah, they do........in fact, there have been claims that it might even be an ADA requirement in some cases. Any church, school, or workplace that makes it a policy will have mechanisms in place to enforce it. Probably, realistically, that granny will get a warning or two before being shown the door, so she understands the policy and realizes that she's actually violating it. You don't think it happens in real life? You bet is does, and my best friend had to change her morning routine (and hairstyle) to accommodate her new job. She loved her job more than that hairstyle ;)

see you are confusing enforcing a rule on somewhere where I'm paying (they are making $$$) and at work where the offender is being paid.

so far management has not enforced much on a cruise.. smoking, rum runners, dress codes, serving too much booze to drunks, using the hand sanitizer, no one is posted in the public restrooms to enforce hand washing, hookers working the bars and casino, waiters telling folks they don't need that much food in the WJ. screwing on the balcony, sick people getting on the boat, so if stink is going to be enforced who going to tell the guy wearing the wife beater that he needs a shower or some of the non-first world folks they need to shower? whatever..

I wasn't going to jump in on here but reading your post, I had to. You are so wrong have you ever smelt someone chewing that watermelon gum, or that green apple? I can't stand to be in the same room with them, they smell...

It took a while before studies came out that showed how dangerous smoking is (and I imagine part of that reason is due to tobacco companies blocking them). So I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the future, it will be shown that these e-cigarettes are also dangerous, both for the users and the people around them.

 

There is not one single health benefit to smoking. For some people, a glass of wine a day may actually be beneficial. But for smokers who are claiming that e-cigarettes of any kind (including the vapor types) won't harm others have no way of knowing that for sure. And just want to justify, to themselves and others, their horrible addiction. Smokers are becoming a minority in this world due to attrition (death as a result of smoking), and due to some people who did realize they can kick the habit.

I agree. I find the sweet odors as annoying as smoke odors. And, there is nicotine in the liquids that I've seen. Yes, I read labels. I'm not sure that they are all that "safe".

 

I find too much cologne or perfumes sprayed is even worse. At least the vape "smoke" odor doesn't linger and get stuck in your clothes and hair.

Nicotine is a poison and used to be used as an insecticide until it was outlawed for such use. Glad I quit but it wasn't easy so I know what people are going through when they are trying.

I personally have no problem with e-cigs although I would suggest that you do a non-fruity variety and I hate the smell of cigarettes. However, some people regard e-cigs with the same loathing as real cigarettes. Also, you need to check with Carnival as to their official policy.

Guess I'll be one of the rude ones & smoke my ecig/vaper pens where I want too instead of cigerettes. Dont care if people wanna say I'm selfish or rude but I'm dang well sick & tired of others who think they can ban public spots.

Granted, I understand the ship isnt really public space as it is owned by a company.. but until I have a cruise employee telling me I cant then all others can go to you know where.

 

The "smoke" from ecigs & the ilk does not smell like real cigerettes do, so far they havent been proven to cause the supposed same harm. So IMHO its not different from blowing fruit scented gum smell into the air. Besides I dont smoke ones that have any smell & very lil indicating smoke/vapour. The only way someone would know is if they see me put it to my lips.

in a work environment they most definitely do say scent free. We were advised last month to "consider" using scent free products because of 2 asthmatic employees so that it was not a mandatory forever policy change. But I'm sure I already know who will think it does not apply to them.

You could get away with it in your cabin. If you use them just be discrete about it. I actually used mine on a plane I just blew it down between my legs. Nobody could smell it because it dissipates so quickly. If you are careful nobody will care. I wouldn't go around blowing it peoples faces haha. Personally I find the smell of exhaust pretty bad and that is way worst than anything coming out of a vapor cig. Only difference is nobody is giving you dirty looks when your car is running by them. I also vaped in the casino at the smoking tables and I can tell you that everyone was extremely appreciative that I vaped instead of smoking real cigarettes. If you are discreet you can pretty much vape anywhere on the ship except the dining rooms/main theater if you so choose to break policy.

If e-cigs don't have any of the same benefits as regular cigarettes then why do people use them? If it is just needing something stuck in your mouth that gives off some discolored air, try filling your mouth with a nice white talc powder and shoving your finger in, pull it out, and exhale.

Just what we need on a ship at sea: folks who have no regard for company and/or government regulations in a confined space (ship) at a location with limited egress (sea). There 's a bigger picture here.
