TABLE4TWO Posted February 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2014 I will start off by saying we are not big tour or excursion people, but we are going on the Summit and will be in Bermuda for a few days. Can anyone let us know of a few hour tour of the island that they found had all they needed to know and see. Maybe a beautiful beach, sights, etc. Something simple but wonderful. Thank you for whatever help you can give.
richsea Posted February 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2014 We've cruised to Bermuda numerous times & have never taken a ship's excursion. If you want to see Bermuda, you might want to just find a taxi, there should be plenty at the pier, & make a deal with him to take you to the most popular sights for a few hours. If you are into beaches, Bermuda has a great transit system, including neat ferries, that can take you where you want to go. If you've never been to Bermuda, I would suggest that you visit Hamilton, for shopping & lunch. If you like the beach, horseshoe Bay is the most popular, & the most crowded, but it's beautiful. Bermuda is a beautiful island, & easy to get around, with friendly people. Also, check out the Bermuda port boards, & you'll find many more details. Have a great cruise!! Rare Turtles06 Posted February 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) OP: We did Bermuda on our own, so I can't help you on tours, but I wanted to suggest that if you haven't already done so, you head over the Bermuda Port of Call forum where you'll find a ton of info about Bermuda and can also post your inquiry. Have a great trip! PS: Whatever you do, I hope you make time for lunch at the original Swizzle Inn. Best fish sandwich I've ever had (and the rum swizzle wasn't too bad either! LOL! ) (photo by turtles06) Edited February 13, 2014 by Turtles06
Wine-O Posted February 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2014 We're going back to Bermuda for our 5th time in June. Here's an interesting link someone posted with things to do: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=41348583&postcount=
CruisersTimesThree Posted February 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2014 If you'd like to tour Bermuda, the simplest way to do this is to pre-book one of the many taxi driver/tour guides that are certified to do so, or come off the ship and look for a blue-flagged taxi (these are the certified by the govt guys) Go to the Bermuda port board and there are many threads about private guides, including people's favorite drivers and their information for contact. The fee is set by the government. A regular taxi driver is not allowed to do it, has to be a flagged taxi.

Shir Hayam Posted February 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2014 We have been to Bermuda a number of times and find the best way to "tour" the island is to get a transit pass. It includes unlimited travel on the buses and ferries, all of which are prompt, clean, and safe. The thread Wine-O posted has some great suggestions of where to visit, depending on your interests. Bermuda is beautiful - you can't go wrong. Sheila
miched Posted February 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2014 You can rent a taxi for a flat rate that is set by the government. The drivers are all trained and speak good English, and they have to be certified to do this. If you go to the Bemuda Official Site you can find the info about the taxi rates and transportation passes. We rented a taxi and it usually takes 4 to 5 hours and they will drive you all around the island showing the high lights and anything else you want to do. The taxis are mini vans, AC, and in very good condition. With 2 couples figure to spend $150 per couple to see about all of the sites. If you sign up on the roll call you can probably connect with another couple that wants to share a taxi. We used the taxi the first day and then bought tokens to ride the transportation the going back to the places we wanted to spend more time. Using tokens for us was a lot cheaper than buying passes. The last day was spent around the dock area and it ended up raining most of the day. On the tourists site they give ferry schedules. If you decide to use the ferry get there early as they get filled up and you may be shut out and then have to wait a hour or more for the next one. There is a free tram that services the ships to take you around the dock area. We also found it better and faster to walk as you can wait a long time for it and then it will be filled because it stops at the NCL ship first. 🚢🌅🍸🍻
jsf Posted February 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 13, 2014 We got the transit pass and everyday went some place different, it's nice to take the ferry to Hamilton and then take a bus to wherever you want to go. One day we went up to St.Georges where the cruise ships used to dock until they got too big. Tabacco Bay is in the region and a wonderful place to swim and snorkle, the beach is protected by large granite slabs and the water feels like your bathtub. Bermuda is a great island, lots of stuff to do, Horseshoe Bay is also nice but more people. J.
