elsie60 Posted February 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Back from our cruise and getting adjusted to below freezing temperatures! I just filled out my survey and forgot to mention the toilet paper . OK, so I know there are so many things to post about but I have been LOL to myself about how bad the TP is and no one (that I have seen) has posted about this! :p Please keep in mind this is a "tongue in cheek" response but I just had to do it! BTW Our cruise was wonderful!
flhawkeye Posted February 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Not nearly as bad or cheap as the tissues on my Westerdam cruise earlier this month. They were useless and horrible. They just fell apart in your hand no matter what the use. I bought decent tissues in port.
elsie60 Posted February 26, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I thought about buying TP and facial tissues in port but I didn't want to risk messing with the ship's plumbing. I didn't remember even noticing this on past cruises. Since this was my worst complaint about my cruise I can deal with it!
doublebzz Posted February 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I was on the same cruise and also thought it was a great 7 days. Since my field of expertise does not extend to toilet paper, can't comment on any deficiencies in that area.
two4me Posted February 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) "tongue in CHEEK" pun intended? lol I find it to be " tissue paper" disguised as toilet paper. lol Edited February 26, 2014 by two4me spelling
JMAUST Posted February 26, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2014 A bummer of a cruise!!!!
StanleyWho Posted February 26, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I should have DW check it out!!! she's an expert on TP, the amount of time it takes to select which TP to purchase at the supermarket is unbelievable, at least ten minutes. I didn't remember even noticing this on past cruises. Since this was my worst complaint about my cruise I can deal with it! You are right. It's cruise plumbing TP....better than stopped up plumbing. Maybe a consolation of being back in cold weather is one's own TP at home, lol.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Glad you had a great cruise. Hope you will be doing a full review.
GeorgesGal Posted February 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I must admit to the same complaint (tho I had not brought it to HAL's attention). I noticed the down-grading of the tp about two or three years ago. Wonder if this stuff masquerading as toilet paper has resulted in fewer plumbing problems on-board. Typhoon1 Posted February 27, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 27, 2014 Toilet paper is just as bad at any other cruise line or cheap hotel.
OHCruiser Posted February 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 27, 2014 The TP is that way for a very good reason. It's designed to dissolve more quickly than the heavier stuff, hopefully resulting in fewer plumbing clogs for the ship as a whole. It's the people who bring their own/buy their own, use wet wipes, etc. that make it miserable for those who understand that marine toilets ARE not equipped to handle such things. The right solution is to just use more of what the ship supplies--not to buy/use the wrong thing and make a mess for others. Nothing wrong with finishing up with a damp washcloth--the laundry room doesn't mind a little extra work.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted February 27, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 27, 2014 It surprises me that HAL doesn't say something more specific regarding the care of their marine plumbing. Yes, I have heard captains say if you didn't first eat it or drink it it does not go in the head. But never have I heard any reference to TP or Kleenex (and the Kleenex is right there within reach). I think there's a lot of people that don't realize that non-marine TP could really mess things up, and may innocently use it.
