Wonder if carnival will do kids free too?

So I'm waiting on the elevator, standing here on Deck 10.

It arrives. Ding! Going Down. The door opens.

At right is a nitwit female child of about 15 maybe 16.

She is halfway up the wall, braced between the front and back walls of the elevator

all of her no less than 4 ft. above floor level, obstructing my access to the control buttons.

How very clever!

At left are three boys of about equal age, one of them sitting on the floor hunched over

head between his knees, pretending to be in a medical crisis, complete with heavy breathing, etc.

The whole lot of them just DYING for some attention, even if it's negative attention.

This is why some people don't appreciate kids on a cruise ship.

.............................

On the other hand, we had the cutest little 1 yr.old girl in the dining room booth next to ours.

She was such a pleasure to see, every evening at dinner! :)

I was just on the Enchantment in December. It wasn't my favorite cruise ever, but it wasn't bad. The solarium was my favorite place on this ship. Beautiful, and always nice and quiet. The pool water in there was always nice and warm too. Have fun!! Just curious, what ports are you sailing?

We will be on the Mon-Fri itinerary visting Coco Cay and Nassau with a day at sea before returning to Port Canaveral. It's not my favorite itinerary or time of year to travel, but I had some credit card points to redeem before they expire, which are bringing the total cost of our cruise substantially down. Without the redemptions and discounts, I couldn't justify taking this itinerary that is normally ridiculously cheap at other times of the year!

But we are very much looking to sailing on the Enchantment. I've been looking at some photos post- renovations and she looks like a beautiful ship. :)

depends on the behavior of said child, and more often said parents.

Kids get ramped up from time to time, no doubt; had two. Majority of parents today let their kids push the envelope until someone steps in. That person usually then gets an earful.

Major issues include, but are not limited to:

*using the hot tub as a kiddie pool. No longer enforced on most ships.

*jumping into the pools and bringing toys other than water wings. See above.

*running full speed through the halls, unassisted. Lump this in with hitting all the elevator buttons.

*on the breeze, because what passes for the sports bar is merged with the casino, gamblers had their kids back and forth between the two.

Keep the kid behaved, makes for a fun time for all. Have a great cruise!

well said!

My best cruise ever was with Louis Cruises in the Greek Isles. We were drawn to them because their pricing was based on kids under 16 being free. I don't think it was a promotion, I think it was their normal policy.

We probably wouldn't have taken the cruise if they had been charged a regular rate.

We actually took advantage of the RCL promo this week on the Enchantment. Have been looking for a short cruise over summer to piggy back off a visit to dad in FL. 3day in June to Nassau and Coco Cay for $918 for 3 of us (11yr old). Cheapest Sensation was $1200 range for Nassau only and Paradise out of Tampa was $1300 for Coz only. All inside rooms. Will be our first try on RCL. Most the earlier comments on kids is just need of better parenting or watching kids. We don't allow ours to act up or roam around without one of us. I have observed a lot of the mentioned running up halls, hogging hot tubs but just varies by cruise.

I hope not. A lot of kids nowadays are very misbehaved, with their parents enabling them 100%. Which definitely takes the fun out of Fun Ships. I haven't seen too much of it on my cruises; I was pleasantly surprised to see high-schoolers behave better than the younger kids. But I've read the horror stories. While some number of kids makes the ship look and feel family-friendly, too many make it unfun for adults. If Carnival must scramble to fill the ships, let a third and fourth person in the same cabin, any age, sail free.

I don't have a problem with kids being on the ship in general (at least the well-behaved ones), I also don't want Carnival to turn into the poor man's Disney Cruise Line. What drew me to Carnival initially is its adult-friendly environment: line dances that adults enjoy better than kids, relative lack of babies crying in the MDR, and not always having to edit my words or actions (within common decency, of course).

AMEN!!! It's hard enough trying to book weeks when you can count on low numbers of kids already.

I hear that. I looked really hard one year and figured there would be smaller number of kids and there were just as many as middle of the summer. I can't beleive so many people pull kids out of school for cruising. I know sometimes it can't be helped because of vacation schedules and things like that, but when you sail at a time when most kids are in school and there are as many kids as in July...

I wish Disney would build about 20 more ships...

Disney can build 50 more ships, if their prices remain sky high like are, they don't have to worry about me booking a single one. And you won't ward off kids all together anyway. The only way to guarantee no kids is to book an adult-only sailing. If there is such a thing. I have yet to take my kids out of school to sail. Haven't found it necessary. They get a lot of time off plus the entire Summer. And that's actually when I prefer to cruise. But more and more people are doing it. Couple that with more home schooling and families feeling more comfortable bringing very young kids onboard, and there you have it.

I must say, the kids don't bother me. They really don't. Even before I had my own and cruised, I've always been able to tolerate them and haven't witnessed so much of the outrageous stories I see on here. I also didn't start sailing with our own kids until our youngest was at least 5. I don't know how many more kids a free 3rd and 4th passenger can draw. I read earlier today a Spring Break cruise had 1500 kids on it!!! Now THAT might drive me a little buggy. That's half the passenger load for this ship.

Good point about the prices on Disney.

Normally kids don't bother me either, in fact it's great to see families doing things together. What I have seen more and more with each cruise is the "packs" of kids that look to be between 6 and maybe 15, running wild all over the ship at all hours of the day and night. I mean on my last cruise, which was nowhere near any traditional school break period that I can remember, I went to get a piece of pizza at about 2 AM and was almost run over by a group of spastic screaming kids. What is that?

I just try to pick cruises with less kids because I feel most parents are very responsible, most kids well behaved, and I think less kids means less chance of that kind of thing.

Agreed , while I love kids , I have 3 grown sons , I never took them on a cruise , we as a family took trips to Disney and other amusement parks and such .

The wife and I waited till they were older for the two of us to be able to enjoy cruises . We plan on paying for all of them next year once my oldest graduates college , as a gift for him , but they are no longer children .

I understand alot of parents want to take their kids on cruises , no problem , I can do without the running at all hours , the pushing of every elevator button and the crying at times , but then again alot of adults are seen doing the latter quite often .

You wont see my 7 yr old son misbehaving on a cruise ship unless it's required. I parent my son in public at all times. Some parents should not think of a cruise ship as a guardian. Carnivals prices are so cheap I don't see them letting kids sail free.

Probably because the kids can't buy alchohol, can't gamble in the casino, and generally don't care for spa treatments. In addition, having kids tag along will also reduce the amount of time the parents get to spend in bars, casinos and spa (at least for the responsible parents).

No, but we spend top dollar at Build a Bear, the Arcade and the Candy Store and sometimes on soda packages (not us, but we would buy a smoothie package if one were offered...at this point we buy individual virgin smoothies for the kids).

These issues aren't with the children. They are with the adults who are responsible for them.

Perhaps the goal shouldn't be to have fewer children on board, but rather more courteous and respectful adults. In this way you kill two birds with one stone. For the most part, respectful and responsible adults beget respectful and responsible children.

In my cruising experience, I haven't seen anymore trouble with children than I have with adults. Personally, I don't care for the behavior of over served adults above and beyond that of unsupervised children with too much excitement and little guidance. I am not uncomfortable in approaching a child or children and talking to them about their dangerous or inconsiderate behavior. If approached respectfully and in a non- condescending way, most will listen to what I have to say. Most times they have no clue that what they were doing is wrong/dangerous/inconsiderate and effects others negatively. You can't fault a kid who has never been taught.

I just found out Carnival will be starting Kids Sail Free, a 3 day sail beginning tomorrow March 26 and ending on March 28th. Select sailings April 16-August 28 2014 and you must book under the Fun Select Rate (fare code PKFP33) to be eligible, CAT 4A and above, also it is not combinable with the current OBC offer. Also says offer is for the cruise fare only and does not include taxes, fees, and port expenses. This should be interesting......

I actually told my husband the other day that we shouldn't bother researching a RC cruise anytime soon since they were running the kids sail free promo. There are plenty of kids on a normal cruise....we don't need 25% more!

That I am not sure of bc it wasn't clarified in the promo. I am sure once the sale starts it will obviously be determined. But unfortunately at this time I don't know for certain.

That's what the RCCL promo actually is. 3rd and 4th person sale free.

It is interesting to see Carnival offering this promo if they actually do. Too bad it doesn't work with when I'd like to take my kids (next year).
