matj2000 Posted March 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Just returned from the 3/8 - 3/14 Caribbean Princess Spring Break voyage. This was our 2nd year in a row we cruised Princess out of the Houston area and it once again proved to be an excellent trip overall. The ship was in excellent shape, staff & service was very good. Besides the 1st sea day(cloudy) the weather & sun was awsome the entire trip. I would recommend this cruise to anyone. If anyone has questions, I will try to help.......... slc22 Posted March 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) Glad you had a great trip! I'll be sailing her next month, and so glad The port is just a drive away. Did you prepay parking, or pay once you arrived at the port? Curious if those that prepay have an assigned area to go to directly, or is there just one line for all. We did pre-pay to save the $5 and it was a little faster because you just gave the guy your copy. The lot is the same for everyone, no assigned areas. One line for all to enter, but sometime two booths can service that line.

matj2000 Posted March 16, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted March 16, 2014 On another thread someone has been asking what times disembarkation is scheduled for the Princess xfers to HOU. Do you have that info? Sorry, We did the self disembark and were off by 8AM. They were already letting people off at 7AM. I did see all the buses were parked out front. They had plenty of custom agent booths opened so there was no wait to get through..
matj2000 Posted March 16, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted March 16, 2014 For some reason the ship got in very early. I was out on the balcony at 1130PM on Fri night and the pilot boat was circling around the ship. We were right off Galveston. My wife said we docked around 1AM. All my other cruises we docked around 5-6AM...
ITK79 Posted March 16, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2014 The early arrival back to Houston was due to a fog advisory from the port. The captain made several announcements about this. This is also the reason most of the bars, casino and shops closed at 10pm. The current captain has been very mindful of the passengers and the need to be proactive to prevent unneeded travel delays for them. ITK79 Posted March 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Due to Texas law only alcohol bought from distributors in Texas can be served on the ship while in Texas waters. This is the same for ships leaving Galveston too. In attempt to keep cost down the cruise lines buy minimal amounts to serve why in territorial waters. They also add tax to drinks once in Texas. But the ship did not really seem to be cruising any faster the last 2 days..

ITK79 Posted March 17, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I am not sure there would have been much way to tell that we were going faster since the ship stayed between 18 - 20 knots everynight except one. AZPam Posted March 17, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 17, 2014 How were the hoards for kids/spring breakers? Does Princess still have their "Youth Patrol"? We were on the week prior with only 20 kids and were told 700 were expected last week

Most well behaved, but there is always some that don't act like they know what discipline is. Or their parents for that matter. Overall, we still enjoyed our trip. Just won't go at this time again. Princess used to have security walking around with bright yellow shirts that said Youth Patrol on the back of them. They were to keep the hoards of kids running around loose without parental control in line. We always used to cruise during spring break but now that our kids are out of school and married off, we prefer the first week in March just so we don't have to deal with so many kids. I thought that they were well behaved. On the elevator one night, a child pushed the wrong button. He was very sweet and apologized for the extra stop right away. I wouldn't hesitate to book this cruise again.
ITK79 Posted March 18, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I didn't really think that the children were out of hand on this cruise. I also noticed that there were more children on the Thanksgiving cruise out of Houston than there were for the spring break cruise. I had only hoped that some of the adults on this cruise were as well behaved as the children were. Sent from my SGP312 using Tapatalk
matj2000 Posted March 18, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted March 18, 2014 This was my 6th Spring Break cruise in a row. It was not the usual crowd mix I have seen in years past. Definitely much more older people this time. Missing was the abundance of kids 13 through 19. I never saw any "youth patrol" at all..
