frayedend Posted March 22, 2014 #51 Share Posted March 22, 2014 I doubt this is really much of a problem. But if it does happen, it's probably a bit more serious because the person buying the picture is somewhat of a stalker and for some reason has a strong interest in a particular person. Other than that I am fairly certain that the regular creepers are not spending Carnival prices for photos. The internet is full of anything they could want, completely free. No reason to spend $20 on a pic from a cruise ship.
mosel Posted March 22, 2014 #52 Share Posted March 22, 2014 We were on a Halloween cruise and our friends had really great costumes. When they went to look at them the next day they were all gone. The Carnival crew searched, found and reprinted all the pictures they had taken. Cindy
Aplmac Posted March 22, 2014 #53 Share Posted March 22, 2014 No you cannot and must not buy other folks photos. This is strictly controlled by both the NSA and the TSA. They know who you are, and they intend to keep it that way! You can only buy your photos, and you'll need to present two items of photo ID at point of sale. It's tough living in the 21st.Century but that's the way it's turned out. .
Sharper Island Lover Posted March 22, 2014 #54 Share Posted March 22, 2014 I had never given this matter a thought before. It does not sit well with me that creepy people would buy others images for unknown purposes.

Rare sprint180 Posted March 22, 2014 #57 Share Posted March 22, 2014 While on the Elation we were looking at pics and seen one I wanted to buy.(not really) There was a lightening bolt coming down between a man and woman. as they were posing for a pic. It was so cool. Obviously I didn't but what are the chances of taking that picture at the right time.
fenix Posted March 22, 2014 #58 Share Posted March 22, 2014 A few years back, Carnival trialled facial-recognition on one of their ships. The bar code on the front of photos is only for the backdrop of the photo taken. There is no way to electronically trace the picture in the system, only by manually searching through the thumbnail album - "Index". Yes, anyone can buy any picture they like. PrettyHazardous Posted March 22, 2014 #62 Share Posted March 22, 2014 On my wedding cruise many of my family members bought pics of my hubby and I straight from the picture place. Many of them I didn't even get a chance to purchase and I was a bit upset. But my mom and a couple others made copies for me so I ended up getting them free lol. swedish weave Posted March 22, 2014 #64 Share Posted March 22, 2014 To those who are worried about some creep buying pictures ---- Your picture could be taken by a person with a camera or cell phone and could be all over the internet in minutes. You wouldn't even know they took it. Relax, and don't wear anything that you think would attract that type of person. BTW -- The NCL getaway has the photo system where they swipe your card when your pic is taken and you go to a machine in the photo dept and swipe your key card to see all your pics. They don't print them out until you select and pay.

evandbob Posted March 22, 2014 #66 Share Posted March 22, 2014 Bingo. Creepers are gonna' creep. If someone wants to buy your photo for whatever unspeakable acts they're going to do when they get back home - you can at least take comfort in knowing that they had to pay good money for the privilege. What about creeps on board using the photo gallery to check out who they might want to stalk while on the ship? The MDR photos show which women are without male escorts, and give the time and place where they could be approached. I've seen teenaged boys checking out the photos of young girls who they might want to approach, wouldn't be difficult for a stalker to do the same. JWGrayson Posted March 22, 2014 #67 Share Posted March 22, 2014 I really wish they went digital so that if someone else buys your pics you can still see them and have the option of buying them yourselves. Sorry, I don't have time to read all of this right now and this could have already be answered.... They are digital and the files are kept on a server in the room where the photographer store their stuff at night. I've had them look up photos for me and print them. mrsd912 Posted March 22, 2014 #68 Share Posted March 22, 2014 We were going to buy one of our table mates photos and give it to them on our first cruise (they got engaged the first night), but decided not to because of the creep factor. Not that anyone would want to buy our photos, but we also tore up the ones we didn't want and put in the recycling bins they have in the area. Almost Packed Posted March 23, 2014 #69 Share Posted March 23, 2014 purchasing photos of someone else technically not a big deal. I mean think about it...you could just sit around taking photos of random people all day long until someone noticed you and then said something to you. Carnival doesn't care who is buying their photos. sure it's a bit creepy if someone wants to buy someone else's photo. Take it as a compliment I suppose lol. At the end of the day, if someone wants a photo of you for whatever reason, there are a million cell phones nearby lol. you are correct however, that if someone else buys your photo, you don't have one to purchase for yourself if you wanted to. They had face recognition, once you gave your card to a photographer all future pics of you were put together on the machine, this made it simple to find group shots and MDR large table shots as all guests in the pic could view them from the swipe machine. Pellaz Posted March 23, 2014 #72 Share Posted March 23, 2014 I really wish they went digital so that if someone else buys your pics you can still see them and have the option of buying them yourselves. I have to assume that the cost of installing monitors to display all the photos is more than the cost of printing out all the photos...otherwise CCL would have surely upgraded the process by now, if only to save the money. Seems really weird, though, since that's a LOT of paper and photo processing to waste every cruise. We go down early morning, view the photos and tear up the ones we don't want. This would help prevent anyone else from looking at your photos. There are buckets on the floor near the photos for you to dispose of the ones you don't want. Yep, labeled, humorously enough, something like "Not your best shot? That's okay! Drop it here ---> " :)
