lovetocruise75 Posted March 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2014 My experience aboard RCCL ships has been everything from Eastern European to Columbian and everything in between. Haven't been on Grandeur yet but I'm sure it's par for the course.
Missus Makkem Posted March 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Been on RCI ships and it has been announced that they had 64 nationalities on board in the crew.
wcolucci Posted March 25, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Interesting. Are the crew similar in detail like say HAL? They remembered your name after one meeting, very very accomodating..etc etc.
spookwife Posted March 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2014 who cares? they are all hard working, friendly and quite accommodating in all reasonable requests

RSLeesburg Posted March 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Just curious as I have never sailed on RC...What is the Nationality makeup of the crew? Thanks Look for DEI's review - he posted a video of the parade of flags on Grandeur. This was where each nationality of the crew was represented by someone carrying their country flag. It was an amazing thing to watch. Sent from my iPad using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app
Rare BillOh Posted March 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2014 who cares? they are all hard working, friendly and quite accommodating in all reasonable requests Do you have to be so politically correct that a person can't ask the question out of curiosity? Rare BillOh Posted March 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 25, 2014 No HAL has mostly a Malaysian staff & a Filipino Bar staff. The staff on RCI is truly an International mix. Overall, I agree, but certain departments seem to have more of one nationality than others. The wait staff seems to be one most mixed staff. mo&fran Posted March 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I believe the captain and senior staff that run the ship are Norwegian. On Celebrity, they are mostly Greek.
Rare LMaxwell Posted March 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Senior staff and engineering; marine operations are Norwegian. Housekeeping staff tends to be Central and Eastern European Deck operations and maintenance seems to be Filipino Entertainment / CD Staff usually US and British Shops usually run by British Casino staff; mix of European and Asian Waitstaff; Indian, Asian, Central / Eastern European Security; Indian Those are my observations at least. Generally speaking you will find crew very welcoming, easily approachable, and empowered to handle most minor/reasonable requests. Staff often knew my name before I knew theirs. mjldvlks Posted March 25, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Interesting. Are the crew similar in detail like say HAL? They remembered your name after one meeting, very very accomodating..etc etc. Haven't been on HAL so cannot compare. But in my RCI experience, some are better than others at remembering names, but most are pretty good at it. Most wait staffs I have experienced are also pretty good about having your preferred drink and stuff like that ready as you arrive for dinner. I remember one cruise where there was a soccer tournament going on and I would frequently stop in the Schooner bar to watch the games. By the second game or so, the bar tender would pour my drink and have it on the bar as he saw me approach -- and I was only drinking diet coke on a soda card [he got a pretty good tip at the end of the cruise]. Very, very accomodating is a good description [with one or two exceptions]. Edited March 25, 2014 by mjldvlks
wcolucci Posted March 25, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted March 25, 2014 who cares? they are all hard working, friendly and quite accommodating in all reasonable requests Sorry if I offended..as an Italo/Finn mix I should be more sensitive to the slings and barbs of ethnic slurs.....( Thanks Billoh ;-) ) I just remember the staff on HAL to have an amazing knack for, as MJL said, remembering your favorite drinks etc and the great attitudes of the housekeeping staff...like the different animals made out of towels every night for my ..at the time...3 yr old daughter....things like that. That made an impression...a positive one...on me. Just curious as to what to expect Of course being the insensitive slob that apparently some think I am we withheld our tip as we did not like the fact that they missed one nightly towel origami....but hey, how else are you going to keep them in line...
