skynight Posted April 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We are cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale on the Caribbean Princess in June. We are going a day early. Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels near the airport that offer transfers to the port? Arriving by Plane? We stay on S.E. 17th Street which is 10 mins from the airport and just a 5/10 min ride to the pier. There are half a dozen or so very nice hotels there, lots of selections for dinner as well as last min. purchases of wine and sundries which are in walking distance from the hotels. Taxis to the pier are about $10/$12 plus tip.

birdiebill Posted April 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) We have had two cruises out of FLL on Princess. For both we flew into Ft. Lauderdale a day early. We purchased the Extend Your Stay through Princess. That gave us transportation from the airport to the hotel, one night at the hotel, and then motorcoach from the hotel to the ship the next day. We chose the Embassy Suites since we have spent several nights in Indianapolis at the Embassy. They have a nice breakfast each morning included in the cost of the room. There are usually two or three hotels to chose from with their extended stay package. There are also lots of hotels in the FLL area that one can book on their own, but we just liked the convenience of using the Princess package. There are restaurants, wine shops, grocery stores, etc within easy walking distance of the Embassy Suites on 17th St.. redtogo Posted April 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We stayed at the Marriott North through Princess arrangements. I would NOT recommend staying there.
Bruin Steve Posted April 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) We always consider a few options, but always seem to end up at the Marriott Springhill Suites... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/flldb-springhill-suites-fort-lauderdale-airport-and-cruise-port/ Free WiFi, Free hot and cold Breakfast, Free FLL Airport to hotel shuttle, Free hotel to cruise pier shuttle... Large shopping Center with several restaurants across the street (Red Lobster, Sal's Italian, Green Tomatoes Salad Bar, Dave 'n' Busters Starlite Diner, Hollywood Ale House) plus fast food (Burger King, Chipotle, Mc Donalds, Taco Bell) right out in front... Rooms have separate sitting area plus small kitchenette... We typically arrive early--often on a redeye from LA...and they always seem to have a room ready for us early...plus we're welcome at breakfast that morning as well... LollyMoz Posted April 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We had a great experience staying one night pre-cruise at the Holiday Inn Express on 17th. It is within walking distance of absolutely anything as far as food/beverages and shopping for last minute cruise supplies. Short walk to the top of the bridge to look at the ships, short walk to the water taxi stop, etc. etc. Great staff, good breakfast in the morning... shuttle service (fee) to the port. We recommend it.
Colo Cruiser Posted April 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Most do not have a shuttle and if they do will charge more then a cab will cost you. We like the Hyatt Place on 10th next to the Embassy Suites and a few short blocks to the port.

akeasley Posted April 22, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) Springhill Suites near the K-mart shopping plaza is my favorite place to stay. They didn't charge us for the cruise port shuttle in October, which was nice. It also includes free breakfast. Pia1913 Posted April 22, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Springhill Suites near the K-mart shopping plaza is my favorite place to stay. They didn't charge us for the cruise port shuttle in October, which was nice. It also includes free breakfast. Even though we are local, we have used Springhill in the past too. In fact, I sometimes leave my car there when I use FLL airport. They shuttle me back and forth as they do with the port.
msw.delafield Posted April 22, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We have used the Hilton Marina located right next to the 17th street causeway bridge for several years now. Great breakfast buffet each morning, nice property with outdoor bar by the pool. Great view south into the cruise ship basin, located right on the waterway with a Yellow Water Taxi stop right next to the hotel property. Is always fun to wake up on embarkation morning to see your ship pulling into the pier. Water Taxi is convenient transport to downtown Fort Lauderdale and south to Hollywood too. Convenience stores and grocery/liquor shops are only a short walk west on 17th. Is a fast cab ride of about 10-15 minutes to the airport, even faster at about 5 minutes to the cruise ship piers. eandj Posted April 22, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) We are cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale on the Caribbean Princess in June. We are going a day early. Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels near the airport that offer transfers to the port? Why do you want to stay near the airport? There is nothing to do or enjoy there. Unless you are arriving late with no time to do anything but grab a supper and go to bed, head to the city.;) The downtown/beach/port area is only about 15 min from the airport. Take a cab for less than $20. But you have to decide if you want to spend time in some generic chain airport hotel or head to Fort L and enjoy what the city offers. THere are MANY hotels to choose from to fit many budgets. Just read thru a few threads and you'll get all kinds of ideas. BlueHerons Posted April 22, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Anywhere on 17th Street (or 10th) is a cheap cab ride from the airport and to the port. Don't rely on a shuttle. They just aren't worth it in FLL.
redtogo Posted April 22, 2014 #17 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Why not? It is a long ride on the bus to the port for embarkation.

Pia1913 Posted April 23, 2014 #19 Share Posted April 23, 2014 It is a long ride on the bus to the port for embarkation. We stayed at the Marriott North through Princess arrangements. I would NOT recommend staying there. There is also a lack of services in that neighborhood. You can have dinner at Sweet Tomatoes; that is about it. No Walmart or similar to stock up on goodies to bring on board.

Pia1913 Posted April 23, 2014 #21 Share Posted April 23, 2014 I think the closest Walmart is about thirty minutes away. Marriott must have given Princess some sweet deal for them to put their passengers so far away from everything. They've been using Marriott North for years. Those people are basically locked into the hotel for their meals, which of course is pretty pricey.
