Sail7Seas-Celebrity?

Would like to hear your experience on Celebrity. I am aware Zenith does not have balconies which is a major factor why I have not chosen that ship. We did sail the Millennium and were impressed. Have you sailed Millennium, Summit, Constellation or Century? I'm sure you were in a suite. Please share your views.

We have only cruised on Zenith among Celebrity's Fleet.

The first time we sailed on her, we thought it a great cruiseline and we were very impressed with the quality of the product. We returned a few months later and it wasn't quite as good but still very excellent.

The next time we returned, we sensed another small decrease but were still pleased.

The last time was just after RCI bought Celebrity. That was the last time we will sail Celebrity. The product became something that did not please us at all.

Just our personal observation but we left the ship totally disgusted and have not returned.

Pity as we once thought Celebrity was doing a very good job.

Have been on Celebrity 4 times, Century twice, Mercury one time and Infinity one time. You cannot compare Century/Mercury to the Infinity/Constellation they are two different classes of ships. Celebrity remains our favorite line, especially the Infinity which we absolutely loved. Keep in mind that the Century class of ships are now about 8 yrs. old.

Despite Century, Mercury and Galaxy being smaller ships ( 70,000 - 74,000 T) and older 1996 - 1997 , they are kept in great condition!

From what I heard service and food on X isn't worse than on M class.

I sailed Century last year and would repeat in NY minute.

I felt pampered, from champagne during embarkation and crew meeting you to the unbelievable dinning room service, cold towels by the pool and when returning to the ship!

We had waiter and assistant assigned for our 2 tables ( 8 people at each table). On RCI (while I loved ship design) it was 1 waitress for 4 tables!!!

Infinity,Summit,Millenium and Constellation are 91,000 tons.

I think Vista class ships are between Century and Millenium class of X.

I have to smile at Tatka's message about ship size.

That sums up one of the major differences in how people gauge the various ships.

You call 70,000 - 74,000 tons small. I call that very large and just about at the very outer edge of the size we would think about cruising. Vista Class is the absolute largest we will cruise and that ONLY because it is HAL.

I literally was offered the opportunity to cruise FREE (Inaugural three night sailings) on two of the new Large Carnival ships and I said No, Thank you.....even for free.

We have been on the Grand Princess a couple of times - 109,000 tons. The size didn't bother us that much.

We do prefer the smaller ships. We have tried the Vista class ships and will be on the Westerdam in a few months.

But we are glad that after the Noordam is built in 2006, HAL will be going back to the smaller ships.

BUT - we will make one exception to going on a large ship. We hope that we can get a trip scheduled on the Queen Mary 2.

For me 70,000 ship isn't small...I sailed 20,000 or 25,000 T Admiral Nachimov (former Berlin) and didn't see any problem with size.

I just used this term to compare it to M class.

I also laugh when people call 8 years old ship "old"!!! God, we are spoiled!

Good point about a ship of eight years being called "old" icon_smile.gif

We've cruised Zuiderdam four cruises, KK, and loved her and certainly hope to sail her and/or her sisters in the future.

BUT....that is as large as we wish to go

We saw QM2 when on our recent Rotterdam cruise. She's a technilogical wonder and the interest level in her is tremendous (and we have had the huge honor of meeting her alternate Captain)......but we have no plans to book a cruise on her. But, I will not say "never"......

We've sailed Mercury once as well as Zuiderdam. Although they're similar in size, 78k tons vs 85k, I found Mercury much easier to navigate. The Mercury design is so straightforward that it felt to be no larger than Rotterdam VI, despite being ~18k tons larger.

That is no more than a physical comparison. As for ambience such as service and food we found Mercury to be very similar to our experiences on HAL, and superior in some respects such as food and dining room service.

We sail both HAL and Celebrity pretty regularly but have more sailings on Celebrity. We always book suites on both lines, S on HAL and Royal Suites on Celebrity.

The suite perks differ quite a bit between the two lines. The basics are pretty much the same, upgraded toiletries, priority boarding, disembarkment, tender passes, etc.

HAL has the Neptune lounge, the use of the specialty restaurant for breakfast and lunch, several parties just for suites and the suites luncheon.

Celebrity has Butler service! I prefer the personal attention they give to trekking back and forth myself to get goodies from the Neptune - I can do that at home. In today's world of self-service, PDA's, cell phones, etc., I like to have my time onboard feeling pampered and waited on!

The S suites ln HAL are sometimes excellent value for the $$, but I prefer Celebrity. I like having the bedroom in a completely separate room from the living room, as well as a full dining room table.

Both lines give a very good premium cruise. You have to try both and compare to see which you prefer.

The next time you are offered a free cruise on one of the larger behemoth ships, please be kind enough to give my name! I would gladly go in place of you! Small ship, large ship, medium ship, any ship as long as it floats!

And I too, like sue, like the pampering one gets with a butler! At least I think I will like it since it will be my first experience on Celebrity in Dec whereby he will be at my beck & call (sort of!) I like the Neptune Lounge on HAL, but my DH did all the running back & forth for us. Now we will BOTH have someone to do this!

Every time we were in the Royal Suite on Zenith there was a Butler. While they were all delightful, pleasant young men and nice to chat with, there was nothing they did for me that my stewards and the concierges do not do for us on HAL.

Between the combination of Concierges and stewards, everything we have ever wanted has been accomplished for us. We have had shoes repaired, luggage repaired, shoes shined, photos picked up after I left them for developing, laundry and dry cleaning picked up and delivered, even a split seam stitched on a pair of trousers, reservations made, cocktail parties arranged...... They have efficiently received for DH and prompty delivered to him FedEx packages and envelopes, any number of Faxes sent and received by and for him and the one and only time I felt under the weather on a cruise, our steward was a treasure and was so good to me.

Perhaps others have other sorts of errands or things they need done for them but those are the most common things that we have ever wanted/needed.

I've been on the Century several times with Sky Suites. I love that ship and I love the suite service. The European Butler service is wonderful, the food very good, the ship very clean and the service very good. The entertainment was always top notch and very professional and the casinos were good to me!:)

We've cruised twelve times on Celebrity ships. If Zenith had balconies, I expect we would never bother with any other ship. The atmosphere on Zenith is wonderful and many of the staff have been with the line on other ships and beg to be assigned to Zenith and/or Horizon. Most of our cruises have been on Century and it is a wonderful ship in nearly every respect. Beautiful public rooms and just large enough. We sailed once on Millennium but frankly I don't enjoy walking thirty minutes from cabin to dining room. We are food junkies and, despite changes in recent years, the food on Celebrity is still head and shoulders above the rest. The best Celebrity ship of all, however, was the Meridian - which, alas, is no more.

I'm hoping that I keep reading good reviews about Celebrity. It seems to be the best fit for us to visit Bermuda when I take into consideration the departures cities available to reach by driving from northeast Florida. Just wish they would have one out of Jacksonville other than the Bahamas cruise. Hope I'm right on that. For now we have a Zaandam cruise in a couple of weeks and can't wait, first time on HAL.
