You take the forward elevator to 6 then walk toward the casino (going aft) and take the escalators (also stairs) down just before the casino. If you take the aft elevators to 6 (which is where Manhattan is), then you do have to walk through the casino.

Thank you this is extremely helpful

I will add it to my notes :)

Hello Rhea98,

Thanks for answering Jofishes question. I am so glad you did because it has just reminded me why I seemed to be forced through the Casino all-too-often on the Epic; did not have that issue on the Getaway and I really liked that.

Kind regards

I hope it helps. I didn't mean to claim jump. I'm pretty sure you didn't take it that way. [emoji4]

Megacruiser,

I would like to thank you for a well done review. I read some previous reviews and was hesitant about booking, but we are going to book October. I am wondering, are the charges onboard in US or Euro? We are from Canada, can we get the charges in Canadian currency? When purchasing individual alcoholic drinks, I noticed it says 15% grats, so the price would be the price of the drink + 15%? If so, that seems a little pricey for a drink.

Great review & pics! How hard is it to get restaurant reservations once you are onboard? I didn't realize you had to prepay to reserve ahead of time. I'm assuming if we did and changed our mind, you can't get a refund?

Thanks.

thanks so much for your detailed review. My DH and myself will be on the Epic to Morocco/Canary Islands next spring and after reading this can't wait! :D

My pleasure. I have that cruise in mind for late 2016 early 2017. Ten days would be really nice with a chance of winter sun.

Thanks for commenting.

Hello and thanks for your kind comment.

Charges are in US dollars; no flexibility as far as I know. Drinks are getting more expensive and yes, gratuity is added. I noticed a big jump between June 2014 and January 2015. I wonder if they want more people to buy packages. I had the UBP last time and it is worth considering, because it is nice to not worry about the cost of each drink.

On the Getaway I decided a wine package would work out best value for me, because I would be getting generous wine servings with the Chef's Table on one of the nights.

I think it is getting much more difficult at times; now that so many dining packages are being included with the booking. Le Bistro and Teppanyaki usually have to be booked early to be sure of getting in.

I would imagine any charge prepaid would be refunded to your onboard account if you change your mind, but I am sure someone else will know the procedure from experience.

following! I'm booked in a studio for the December 7th Caribbean cruise. I hope my cabin isn't one of the ones you said to avoid  it is cabin 12523

Hi there,

I am booked in cabin 12523 on the Epic in July.....how did you find it? i was hoping it would be close to the studio lounge but not so close to be noisy!

Megacruiser your review is awesome :):):) can't wait for my cruise now! i have been on the Epic before but never on my own! :D

Many thanks for the kind comment. I hope to sail again on Epic in 2016 out of Barcelona. It's got me thinking about how it compares to Getaway. Off the top of my head here are the areas where, for me, it wins:

Studio lighting; main pool deck; Spice H2O; Garden Café, especially outdoor area; Moderno and Cagney's; Le Bistro; Teppanyaki; Bliss; Library and the best entertainment at sea.

Overall, Getaway still wins in my book because of Deck 8, including the innovative Waterfront; and the Vibe Beach Club.

Kind regards

Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into your review. I am traveling solo in August and your write-ups have made me quite excited. I will also be doing the NCL land tour of Italy the week before. Anyone ever taken part in one of these? Thanks again!

Thanks for a great review! Planning April 2016 out of Barcelona so some of the port info from the dailies will come in handy, as well as the menus (which I know may be completely different). Your pictures are truly magnificent! My DH is a foodie so I kept interrupting his all important ipad gaming with your photos.

Great review and photos! You did an awesome job and making me feel like I was right there with you.

EPIC is a ship that never really appealed to me but I find myself booked on her in two weeks on the crossing to Barcelona. Your pics really helped to set the mood and let me see some aspects of her that are quite appealing. Unfortunately I don't think anything will change my opinion of her exterior! The good thing is I don't have to look at it since I will be onboard. LOL

Thanks again!

Now that is a sign of something

I know what is the world coming to! 11-days mostly at sea to experience "Eptanic" as my friend likes to call her! LOL

The bad part is that just as I'm becoming a fan of NCL again (hasn't happened since the NORWAY in the 80's & 90's), everything seems to be changing and not for the better. Hopefully it's just some growing pains with the management transition and things will be better than ever … eventually!

Of course you can expect a full report.

Have a great time and really looking forward to the report. Other than the waterfront, I find Epic's spaces and venues so much better, BIGGER and Epic ;)

IMHO Epic was way before her time. For ships 4 years apart (Getaway), I did not see major changes in NCL new ships except scaling everything back big time and adding a waterfront, better slides and a put put course. Now I would love to see an innovative and radically different NCL ship. But I don't think I will see that happen anytime soon.

Have fun!
