suite and non suite boarding

We have 3 aft cabins in a row on our upcoming Gem cruise, but only one is a PH suite. Will my daughters in the balcony cabins be able to board with us? We are NOT trying to get them into Cagney's! We will all eat in the MDR. Just thought it would be nice if we could all get on with the priority boarding.

Are they minors? If so, yes. If not, no.

No, but you can certainly board with them. They are not entitled to the VIP perks.

I have to disagree it will be no problem for the adult kids to board with them. Happens every week. No VIP perks but boarding and disembarkation together I have never seen a concierge denign that.

Sounds fair to me! It costs the cruise line nothing (except for a cup of coffee or two in the suite lounge) to allow this to happen.

Maybe! There are two separate check in area's. The suite check in is with the concierge in or the VIP check in line. All others in general boarding area. After they receive their boarding cards etc. ask the concierge. Do not be surprised if he/she says no if the VIP area is busy/full. If that happens, you can always board with them in general boarding.

The VIP/suite area at the Seattle terminal is not large. It is a full room at about 20-30 people...not shoulder-to-shoulder uncomfortably full, but full.

Thank you both for your insight and experience. I actually don't care that much if we can all board priority...we will all get on the ship one way or another!!! That's all that matters!!

 

I just wanted the OP to know what I've been told.. but it's good to know that it might not be true!:)

Wow, you cruise every week to see those exceptions made! You must have lots of cash for cruising.......

Be very wary of ANYTHING a PCC promises. Most have never been on a cruise and don't know their elbow from their ankle.

We have never had a problem having non suite relatives priority board with us. We always get to the pier as early as possible usually around 10 so it is not that crowded in the lounge. That may be why but we have never had an issue.

It has been posted here numerous times that families can all board together whether some are booked in suites. What is the big deal? Why divide families like that?

To separate families and children from parents who are all walking on board the same ship makes NO sense what so ever. And I don't remember anyone posting here they were denied such a request.

With all due respect -- and I may be the minority here -- I don't care about anyone's family being together. It's just not my problem. I paid for VIP/Priority Boarding, and if every other suite pax decided that the other half of their brood should be able to board with them, then where would we be?

 

As said above -- suite/non-suite families can certainly board together. In general boarding. Sure - the concierge will probably allow you to pack your whole 16 person inside-cabin party into the VIP area with your 2-person suite family leaders blazing the path ahead, but does anyone consider what the RIGHT thing to do by others is? Oh, wait...

 

I don't even care if they're in the same lifeboat together when the ship goes down... but now I'm just being silly.

I understand your position. But this is the ONE time where that rule of thumb does not apply IMHO. If they were getting in the Haven or Haven restaurant then I would agree with you about abusing the perk. But simply walking on a ship together is hardly an abuse of perks. I know some try and milk and abuse the system but this is not one of those situations IMHO.

I have been bogged down in the suite "VIP" lounge while countless kids get booked in with their parents. And as I am waiting "patiently" I see non-suite passengers whizzing past me LOL. So sometimes the suite embarkation is not always the fastest way to board.

But once on board the rules should apply. On Epic in 2010 the butler insisted on escorting suite guests to shows (that only happened that first year). I would see suite guests invite their friends to the Haven to be escorted all together to the shows. I could never understand why and definitely thought it was an abuse of the system. So we could agree on a lot but boarding together is my exception ;)

Oh my! I just wondered if it was possible. I am more than happy to take the 'free downgrade'. This will most likely be our only cruise with the 6 of us, so we want to get the welcome aboard photo, rather than bypassing it as is our norm.

If it's the welcome aboard photo you're after you might be disappointed. In NY, when you board with other suite guests, you miss the photographer taking the welcome aboard photos since you leave the terminal through a different exit than general boarding. You'll have lots of other opportunities for a group photo though.
