How do CCL bartenders know a person is old enough to drink booze?

What do the bartenders look at on the S & S card that tells them they are of legal drinking age?

 

 

My card has the Folio, VIP#, and numbers the right top corner but not sure what they mean.

Pretty sure they just scan it, although I was asked for id for my first drink on my first cruise.

We were once told that they wear special contact lenses that allow them to read your age that's hidden on the S&S card. However, we are fairly sure that when they swipe your S&S card or enter the folio number in the register, your picture, age, and other info is displayed to them.

Yes, your age information flashed up on the screen. Because the security outside the age restricted clubs don't have a monitor, is why you need to present identification

Yes, the age is presented on the screen when they swipe/charge your S&S card, and at the club they ask for ID due to a lack of having the technology at the door before you enter. They security and bartenders at the club are pretty good with distinguishing the age of drinkers, and will ask for ID if they aren't sure.

My daughter and son in law were not 21 on our first cruise and the lettering on the sail and sign card was turned long ways instead of the regular way. My son in law turned twenty one the second day of the cruise but they wouldn't change it.

Rules must have changed, since my daughter turned 21 on our cruise in 2003. We were able to go to guest services, and they issued her a new card. But, then again, a lot of things have changed on Carnival since 2003. LOL

Also something else to keep in mind is that those lenses can also see through clothing.

Which ship? We just went on the Inspiration with DD20 and her card looked just like ours. No difference at all.

Maybe Carnival is testing something.

I find that alternative-printing orientation very interesting!

 

 

I've never seen that,

but I'll ask at Guest Services, next cruise.

I would be careful if I were you. We were on the Paradise last year with a son and his wife and three kids. Our grand daughter, age 18, ordered a mixed drink at the comedy club right in front of us and her parents and was served:(. No questions were asked. I was shocked and surprised that her father didn't say anything. I wanted to say something at the time but I do not believe in telling a 39 year old how to raise his family.

My kids always have to show ID. Even standing in the casino my daughter, 23,at the time , had to show her DL.

This. We were just on the Triumph, and my 20 year old was repeatedly asked by casino employees to show his ID to prove he was over 18. The age is not on the S&S card. I told him to appreciate the fact that he looks young rather than get irritated at the minor inconvenience.
