Rare ORV Posted July 10, 2014 #28 Share Posted July 10, 2014 I definitely would. It was a fun ride with some great views, and a photo op stop up in the mountains. The first train is at 10:10...the station is easy to get to by bus or taxi. It took about 1 hour and ten minutes total. We opted to continue on the tram down to Port de Soller as well. It made for a nice day with some great changes. Since we did not want to cut it short, with a sailaway time at 4pm, we took a taxi back to the ship. We could have made it with a train ride back, but did not want to risk it. The cab ride back was very quick./..faster than the train for sure. ;) I'll post more pics when we get home. Ron, Thanks for the reply, and the pictures and reports from your trip. We are in Palma till 6 and plan on taking the train or the bus back. I've read the bus is a scenic drive back. I'm assuming Oceania didn't have any shuttle to the town from the port?

computerworks Posted July 10, 2014 Author #30 Share Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) By the way...internet speed has been just delightful. Because of MTN DNS latency, etc., the domain resolution is pokey... but once connected, download speed is as good as a land based connection. I am sure due to some compression trickery... I am very happy with it. Uploads are still slower, as expected. By compressing my images first, I have no problem uploading a handful of pictures simultaneously. The at-sea connection routes thru MTN in South Florida. Rarely, there can be the usual delay in account validation through MTN... but for the most part... 99% of the time it is spot on good. computerworks Posted July 12, 2014 Author #43 Share Posted July 12, 2014 How did you get to the Cinque Terre? Private tour? Drive yourself? Pam... because of the logistics and several potential uncertainties.. on this one, we chose a private tour. Car and driver, plus guide for the day. Ron, stumbled on this stellar photo-review this morning and am always happy to sail along with you from my armchair. I love the photo of you having lunch-Angela always looks like she is having the time of her life and I am sure she is traveling with you and Oceania. When I book our first Oceania cruise it will be mainly because of your posts which first got me thinking O. Great review! Thank you. computerworks Posted July 12, 2014 Author #48 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Tomorrow, we arrive in Civitavecchia. Almost had a hiccup for tomorrow... I planned to take the train into Rome from Civitavecchia...and spend the day as a pure tourist on HoHo buses. Guess what? Train strike...one day...tomorrow. That is Italy for you. ...plus, on a Sunday...Nowhere to rent a car, other than a schlep to the airport. Luckily, I was able to get two seats on a ship's excursion.."Rome on Your Own." Not the most desirable ($) way to get to Rome but...whew.... so, we will have transit into Rome and back and can do all we planned.
computerworks Posted July 14, 2014 Author #49 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Had a fun full day in Rome, despite the train strike. Made it back to the ship in time for a quick dinner, then the World Cup Final at night. Just dropped anchor in Sorrento. We will ferry over to Capri for the day. Some pics from both tonite...should have a bit more free time.
CintiPam Posted July 15, 2014 #50 Share Posted July 15, 2014 We had our first visit to Capri in May, arriving on a private speedboat (with a Captain and four others) from Amalfi. What a gorgeous place. I loved the cable car ride and the views. Hope you had a great day there; looking forward to your Capri photos. :)
