Had booked a Halloween cruise on RC for a change not realizing their smoking policy had changed from 8yrs ago...Found it had and cancelled booking...Turned around and booked same dates on Carnival this past Sat...Hear this today and have to cancel it as well...It appears Norwegian is the only other option at this time...I'm not the smoker and I'm not a cruise enthusiast either, but my partner is both...Bothered for him, could care less for myself, but am tired of booking, cancelling, booking, cancelling...Maybe I can get him to consider an all-inclusive for a change instead now.

Kudos to Carnival for both decisions if they do indeed turn out to be true. I just wish they would make the casino non-smoking too. They could have designated smoking areas outside aft on the ship where the smoke would leave the ship area when moving. And then ban smoking everywhere else on the ship to promote good health among passengers and their crew. Carnival is really behind the times in their smoking policies.

If Carnival was smart they would designate a certain area of the ship as smoking and then charge extra for the cabins that are close to that designated smoking area. It would make it convenient for the smokers to access the area from their cabins, and Carnival could recoup the cost of the clean-up.

Carnival staff work very hard to provide us with a great vacation experience. They deserve a raise. I don't have a problem spending a couple extra bucks for the automatic tips.

I think the smokers pay enough, you MUST be joking!

The next thing all the non-smoking do gooders will be whining about, when smokers all quit, is how much their taxes are!

Smokers pay a ABSOLUTELY HUGE amount of tax for all you non-smoker vipers!

Having 1 side smoking and one non-smoking is the BEST SOLUTION.

However, it makes sense and that's missing in most instances these days.

Carnival will lose business if they go non-smoking....no doubt about it.

The puny spots they have for smoking now are a complete joke.

Open wide NCL and HAL.

Ummmm, and I don't smoke cigs anymore so that argument is invalid.

Never smelled anything on our balconies besides weed once or twice.

I AGREE with those wondering about the exaggerated reports of balcony smoke everywhere choking them and round the clock smokers.

Have not had that at all in 4 cruises.

Our cabin or our friends cabins. Hmmmmmmm.........

Raise gratuity? Not much. Who cares. But, there seem to be a lot of people complaining about the food & shows & music being cheapened.

So yeah, sure, raise the costs after cheapening the experience.

Corporate greed anyone?

When we booked cruises, Carnival always had the first look. Because my DH can sit on the balcony and try to light his cigar. If he has ever succeeded, I am not aware of it. He mostly chews it.....or just sits around and feels like a Rebel. I do not sit out. We live in Florida. We have a relative who has battled melanoma successfully but the mental and emotional toil has been high. So I book balconies because I love the old goat, and humor him. Now........Carnival is the same as Princess and Celebrity and I don't know about HAL or RCI. We can sail OV...save money....and it is good.

He will be disappointed. I think I am glad. But it will be harder to get him to cruise now. And for sure, he never blew smoke on anyone. Not on any cruise. Carnival is so busy reinventing itself and none of it seems all that successful.

I Just posted a suggestion on another page on maybe a compromise ... Change the 8S balconies to smoking...

They are on top of the ship/ limited number of cabins port and starboard/ and higher priced.

Right now they are marketed as non smoking balconies for those who didn't want to chance being next to a smoker on the regular balconies..... Now that the all balconies are smoke free... Switch those upper cabins...

Easy to do... The S now goes from spa to smoking

Fair to me as a non smoker

GREAT NEWS! But, I wish it was a total smoking ban.... it's time to try again.

You all keep harping on it like with the balcony smoking and you will probably get your wish! I'm sure glad I quit smoking before this.:p

I hope that is true, I could then enjoy my balcony more.

Sorry John, it doesn't go into effect until the cruise after ours . But lucky for me that the only time I ever smoke is when I gamble and I can still do that ;).

Personally, as a non-smoker, there are many of us that have been contacting NCL to persuade them to ban it as well. I personally think they will follow suit shortly

Well it's a good thing I quit smoking regular cigs. in December, now that we have moved into our home, it still smells new....

I have not smoked in front of my husband for a couple of years now, you see he has COPD, not from smoking but from other health issues.

I loved our first and last cruise on the conquest, the smoke in the casino was always heavy, but now I bet it will be a nightmare to be in. Also it was going to take me 16 months to save up enough to pay for all of us to go again, now it will be at least 588.00 dollars more....not going to happen..

I also use e-cig, no odor, no smell, and yes it runs on a battery. If this thing caught on fire, oh well, other things with battery's can catch on fire to.

So, no one will miss this family of 10.. We'll fly to the islands, bet it's cheaper too.:(

Personally I think they should come up with a way to make both smokers and non-smokers happy.. Why not instead of banning smoking on all balconies, make one side of the ship where smoking is allowed on the balcony and the other side of the ship smoke free? Being a smoker, I pay extra for a balcony room, so I can smoke. I am on vacation, I really don't want to take a journey for a smoke!! I am by no means looking for flames here, just my opinion. I am a respectful smoker. I always ask my neighbors if it bothers them.. If so, I don't smoke while they are out on their balcony. Sure am glad that my next cruise is in September!! Please don't beat me up because I smoke..

It's not all fake coughing. I'm sure some people overreact and get dramatic, but not everybody. Some people do indeed have sensitive lungs. All sorts of things can set my daughter off into a coughing spree, and cigarette smoke does happen to be one of them.

My mom has done the exaggerated fanning and fake cough for as long as I can remember. I hate it.

I agree. There must be some way to make everyone happy. I smoke too and never smoke if the folks in the balconies next to me are out trying to relax. I go so far as to have a little air freshener spray just in case. There are considerate smokers out there who pay just as much for their balcony as the non-smokers. I think this ban is far too extreme and that options were not even investigated. I hate to see the throng that will now be on the smoking side of the Lido deck. The ship will probably tilt.

I don't smoke but I think it sucks I don't want anyone telling me how to relax.

so the next time you go on vacation and want to sit on your balcony be careful for what you enjoy because one day that may be taken away too. (like a glass of wine it could cause you to fall over board from drinking to much)

and I am allergic to most perfumes but you don't hear me running to Carnival and say my whole cruise was ruined because people wear perfume.

Totally agree with everything you say and perfume should be banned in all elevators and enclosed spaces......

As has been said already, there aren't enough smokers to occupy one side of the ship and the non-smokers wouldn't book that side. Carnival can't afford that many cabins to go empty.

You may be right but tell that to Royal Caribbean who went smoke free balconies and whose sister company Celebrity has completely smoke free interiors including the casino. Their stock is up close to 50 percent. We were on Celebrity Summit last month and the casino was packed every night.

I would never tell you what you should or should not do as it relates to smoking. It's your body. However, the point has been made, and I agree, that there are not enough smokers left to fill an entire side of a ship's balconies. As their space in the world gets smaller and smaller, many are quitting altogether. As that space gets even smaller, more will quit. I believe that eventually smokers will realize they have no option but to quit as more and more venues become completely non-smoking. The good news is that also eventually, science will invent a medicine that the smoker can take that will make quitting in 1 day a piece of cake.

Love Celebrity and their smoking policy. Nice to walk through the ship with no smoke anywhere including the busy casino. Carnival knows exactly what they're doing. ;)

This is the mindset that is maddening. There are now how many line that have banned balcony smoking but you won't be happy until every last one is taken? And they say smokers have a "me" mentality - ha!

That very specifically has to do with a better product.

We've never had a balcony and we did book with the idea there might be people around smoking, but we were willing to take the chance. I personally can't stand cigarette smoke, and try to avoid as much as possible. I am over the moon excited I'm not going to have to deal with the idea there may be someone smoking on the balcony next to me! Thank you Carnival. :)
