Can you pay cash on board?

Recommended Posts

Leaving on Saturday on EOS with my family. Im wondering if you have to use the set sail card for everything you buy. Do they take cash at the bars??

SeaPass card for everything on board, no cash accepted, except for tips and the casino. You can use cash at the end of the cruise to pay the SeaPass account.

No, they do not take cash at the bars. The servers will accept cash from you as a tip though. The only places that cash changes hands is in the casino and at the guest relations desk. You can give them cash and they will load it onto your Seapass Card.

I did a cash account last time. Essentially, you're paying for everything with cash when you do that so yes, is the answer. You give them the amount of cash you want your line of credit to be and they debit your sea pass as you make purchases. However, be careful! I was very surprised to learn that they will let you go over the amount of cash you have given them! And yes, the onus is on me really, to manage my account but often I'm not in the room or something didn't show up right away. I really think (especially with kids or young adults) they should decline any purchase that goes over your cash account like banks do. That way if you only had a certain amount and no other funds you can't get yourself into trouble. Mine was over by .35 (or some change) and they wouldn't let me leave the ship lol. I had to go stand on an incredible line and pay it. I wanted to just leave a dollar in the room and call it even! :p

Royal has no incentive to decline a purchase; they would always rather make the money than not.

We use a cash onboard account on most of our cruises since we are not American and buy USD when we feel the exchange rate is to our advantage thus don't need to accept a poor rate when the cruise is being done. Our experience has been you are allowed to charge up to $500 before you must make a cash payment on your onboard account.

Yes, as someone said, you can pay off your account that was put on your seapass with cash, but not pay for anything else on the ship with cash. I always carry cash with me to pay for a Taxi, or to purchase something from vendors, or to leave an "extra" tip at the end of the cruise for whomever.
