Smoking Policy on M Class Ships

Was on the Constellation in May for the Baltic Sea cruise and as I remember the Sunset Bar area was now all non-smoking. It wasn't that way in November last year. I'm a smoker and use to enjoy early morning coffee and a smoke out there. Maybe is was just that ship/cruise.

 

The Sunset Bar on the Infinity was smoke free in May if that's any help.

Do either of happen to know where they put the cigar & pipe smokers on these cruises? In the past this has been the designated area for that.

The kind of smokers that would infringe on non-smoking areas by moving ashtrays over are not concerned about anything other than themselves. I take that back...since they are smoking they are not concerned about themselves either.

 

I've only run into this once many years ago (where a smoker in the non-smoking side of sunset bar refused to move) and that was before they made most areas of the ships smoke free.

 

...I would also like to try an aft cabin, but I understand the smoke fom the Sunset deck is a problem on the aft verandas. X please consider making the Sunset bar area a smoke free venue.

 

The aft cabins on the M class ships (CC and FV) are fantastic. The only ones that might be impacted a little by the smoke are the ones on the port side of deck 9. Other than that I wouldn't worry and I wouldn't worry about those unless you are extremely sensitive to smoke.

We are non smokers, but do you recommend they return to allowing smoking on balcony's to replace excluding the Sunset? Gotta give if they take.

 

Why? I simply would like Celebrity to become a total non smoking cruise line.:)

That is why I asked if someone had a copy of the letter that is always in the staterooms upon boarding. In April, the Sunset Bar still had a smoking section on the Connie. Now hearing comments about the Connie & Infinity, both of which I have cruises booked on, I am just trying to confirm that is a FACT.

I don't recall any thing in writing, just no ash trays and when I went out to smoke was told by staff that the area was now smoke free. Again, maybe was just that cruise.

The smokers I encountered at Connie's Sunset Bar back in April were courteous and aware of their designated half of the area. If my memory serves me correctly, doesn't Celebrity provide smoke-eating ashtrays on the port side tables and bar? I did not experience any issues with second-hand smoke while on my aft balcony located on the port side above the Sunset Bar on Connie. BTW those are great staterooms! I am a non-smoker. I am pretty sensitive to smoke in an enclosed environment, but we are talking about an outdoor area here that runs the full width of the ship. There is plenty of room for smokers and non-smokers. And, yes, a definitive statement of the policy from "Mr. CelebrityCruises" would have been appreciated in his post. LOL!:D

X has had one of the most restrictive policies regarding smoking for some time. Even at the expense of their gambling revenue. Other lines are following their lead.

 

X has done a good job, and I'm glad they make accommodations for the smokers. Yes, it's a bad habit that is not good for anyone. But it is an addiction none the less. Please understand that. Like Gambling, Alcoholism, etc. Should they take out the casinos and not server alcohol?

More and more states have restricted smoking in public places including hotels and resorts and many hotel chains are smoke free at every location. This trend will likely continue.

 

As for gambling and alcohol on board - Celebrity makes money from those activities but does not make any money from smoking. Guess which ones are likely to have continued or further restrictions in the future.

As long as the ship was moving, the little bit of smoke wafting about didn't bother us. When we were in port it was another story. There was one group that was really bad as they seemed to 'live' at their smoking table for the whole cruise. They didn't butt out their cigs well and the ashtray was always smoldering. Now that is gross!

If this is the case about all I can suggest is that perhaps an option may be to utilize a non smoking area, where there will not be any people who are smoking. Otherwise it sort of makes sense to me that in the area as designated for smokers, there will be people smoking.

Hi Larry, long time no see.. :) As you koow I almost NEVER comment on thread of this nature.. But

 

As a non-smoker, I think Celebrity has done a good job finding a fair balance, eliminating all indoor smoking and clearly defining the areas where guests may encounter smoke. Those that now complain of smoke in the few clearly defined remaining areas have the pre-warned oportunity to avoid those few areas.

 

I also feel to be fair, while smoking is on a steady decline in the US, there are still many area's of the world where smoking is not, and those passengers as well as the American's that smoke having booked a Celebrity cruise with a exsisting policy which clearly states that smoking is permited in designated areas on the outside decks, and I feel those passengers should be left in peace to smoke. ..To me it's a matter of tolorance, and abiding by the rules that were in place for all when all of us booked the cruise.

 

I for one know when I book a Celebrity cruise that I'm not booking a private yacht, and while I may not use the spa, or seldom drink in the lounges, I therefore by definition avoid those areas and though I may feel those venues are wasted space's for me, I cetainly don't demand that those areas be changed just to make more space available to my cruise experience, same goes I feel for smoking areas.. I've been pre-warned, I know where they are, and just avoid when possible. There no "second hand smoke" excuse when you've elected to visit a posted smoking area, and if the drifting smoke bother's me, I just keep moving til it doesn't

The problem with smokers on the Sunset deck is that in addition to it being a small area, it is the place for outdoor eating for the Oceanview Cafe. We have never been able to enjoy eating there because of the smokers. The Sunset is a very small area and the smoke drifts and is especially offensive when trying to eat. Given the declining number of smokers, and Celebrity's pioneering stance on nonsmoking areas (which the other cruise lines are now following) I would hope they would reconsider the smoking policy on the Sunset deck. There is still smoking allowed on the port side of the Promanade deck, pool deck and Mast bar. And there would be no ban on people who smoke, only the smoke.

I guess you have not quite understood my post nor my opinion. I am not complaining because people were smoking in a non-smoking area. I was upset by one group who 'hogged' a table and did not extinguish their cigarettes well and sometimes there was like a 'fire' in the ashtray. It was gross!

 

I like to sit outside and as others have pointed out the tables outside on the M class are limited to enjoy a meal.

 

I knowingly sat in the smoking area (because these were often the only available tables) and have no complaints most of the time about the smoke. I will choose an outdoor table in the smoking section versus an indoor table in the non-smoking section.

 

In the long run I agree with the OP and hope the Sunset becomes non-smoking, in the meantime, I will sit an an empty table in the smoking section if this is the only one available and will live with the smoke.

 

Hopefully, this is now clear.

That's a myth. They said the same thing that all the bars and restaurants would go out of business when States eliminated smoking inside. Didn't happen. In fact, there are still a few bars in our town that people refuse to frequent because there's still smoking inside. They've lost my business.

Absolutely not true, Celebrity has picked up many people who appreciate the policy.
