Changing even a small item like this will involve $$$. Someone has to start thinking about a replacement, Options have to be Chosen, a Team will have to Review, they Need to find a Company providing the items in the Quality they Need, Prices have to be negotiated, Messages sent to every ship and everbody involved, etc. All of this cost them Money. We all know Labor ain´t cheap. So all this Money for just a few People affected and not to Forget most likely as many of them will complain about the new GIFT as there are complaining about the old one. The thought isn't the cost, the implementation of the cost might be. But they could use the travel coffee cups, with the Royal name on it (which they already have or some other item they already have). It would not require a new product line and all the accompanying market research for implementation. Just like they go through more note pads and pens, they would go through a few more of the 'other items utilized' for the give away. Lets not make sure a big deal out of this idea. I appreciate you would be happier with a Change in M&M gift given to you, that´s OK, just don´t be fooled into the "they could do it easily at no cost" thought. Yet, in some corporations, decisions can and do get made for the better, without the same level of 'corporate dancing' as I have been known to call it. We were on Explorer recently and have also sailed on Liberty and Monarch and they were all great cruises, but I noticed (also from pics of other RC ships in the Cruise Reports on here) how overly similar the feel is on all of them. The décor and the names of all the venues are the same on each ship (Schooner, Boleros, etc) , the room décor (those dull drab mauves, beiges, blues), the corridors, the WJs ... even the MDRs on the bigger ships .. everything kinda looks the same .. Wouldn't it be a little better if they gave more individual personality to each ship? I know they vary by class as far as certain amenities (like Oasis class .. and how some have the Flow Rider thingy) ), but I was struck by how similar Explorer felt to Liberty and how even the Monarch had the same feel in some ways. Im not saying that they should ever go over to the gaudy crap Carnival does .. but wouldn't a little bit of individuality for each ship make it more interesting for repeat cruisers? Anyone else get what im saying? I agree with what you are saying and have observed the same on the cruises I've been on. For me, I prefer this. No matter what ship I sail on in the fleet, I get a consistent cruise experience and am familiar with the venues onboard. Not that I know for sure, but I'm getting the impression that Quantum class might look significantly different than the previous Royal ships. You are right Bob. If you have ever sailed on a Celebrity Solstice class ship, or have looked at the deck plans, you will see many similarities. From the exterior shape of the ship, to the stateroom layouts and design. Even to the shopping and restaurant areas. I think Royal Caribbean is most likely going in the right direction with this class of ship. I am tired of the gift and have stopped taking them, but am thinking maybe I better start taking them again and giving them to others on the ship that don't know about CC. Outside of the different venues on the Mega ships, the excursions, and the ports of call, all cruises are pretty much the same, but I think that's the reason most people cruise. They know what to expect. Casino, love and marriage game show, belly flop and the quest if you're feeling adventurous. Cruising is doing the things that you like with different groups of people. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. If RCI changed the atmosphere on their ships, the line would be out of business the next day due to mass suicides of top tier members. Happy cruising. I was just chatting with my DH about the location of the Diamond Lounges. Many ships have it in the Viking Crown; some have a dedicated lounge on the Viking Crown level; others have a dedicated lounge in another area (Allure had it overlooking the Promenade -- which was wonderful). I will be leaving the nest next year for the first time, we will be on Coral Princess, twice. I've been studying the deck plans trying to figure out where things are. I love experiencing a new ship, but, do not like the "lost" feeling of not knowing my way around. So anything that makes me feel like I've been there before helps me a lot. I stay with RCI because I like the thought that I know what I am getting for the most part. For example, I know what Sorrentos pizza will taste like even though I may never have been on that particular ship before. As others have pointed out there is value in a 'family resemblance.' Carmakers are big on that, so you are comfortable sitting behind the wheel of any of their products, and it's not a completely different experience.
