trev71 Posted August 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2014 when i was on the Allure we sat by a window. It was very quiet on the side. i dont like being out in the middle like i was on the oasis last cruise it was very loud, we could barely hear our table mates talk
DonnaK Posted August 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2014 On Allure, we were assigned to one of the "overflow" private dining rooms on the outside of the MDR on deck 4. While we had a wonderful window table, I would not recommend this location. Service was very poor, very slow and very chaotic. A few passengers were very loudly outspoken that being seated in this area was unacceptable, and demanded to be moved. It seemed like it was a training area for new waiters/assistants, or a remediation area for weak waiters (I'm not sure if this is the actual case, but it sure felt like the least experienced waiters were assigned here). The head waiter hovered a lot. The waiters and assistant waiters didn't seem to complement each other well. Etc. We spoke to the head waiter, but that just seemed to make the situation more uncomfortable and awkward because the waiter became overly nervous and anxious. The assistant waiter was swapped out after a few days. The head waiter's explanation was that the prep area is not close to the tables as it is in the MDR, and that the distance to the galley is significantly further, so the waiters have to cover more distance and it's much harder work. In retrospect, we should have quietly asked to be moved into the MDR, and in the future, we will not accept an assignment in these side dining rooms again. We've been seated near the Captain's table several times on other ships, and have found that service is absolutely superior there. I imagine that the best waiters are assigned the tables around the Captain's table, so that's likely the best location to be seated.

StarSong2001 Posted August 14, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Is the captain's table in the same location all the time? For instance on Allure, and if so, where? So if I get my card and see my assignment, how will I be able to tell if that's located anywhere near the captain's area?

legalx Posted August 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Just off the Allure of the Seas. Our table was number 172, floor 3 in the Adagio. We were seated in the area surrounding the captain's table. The table's view of the chandelier and captain's table are blocked by a large column and that table is right next to the speakers for the live music that plays almost nightly and it was difficult to talk with our table mates. The music was wonderful just loud being that close. It was set for 8 but the 1st night it was just me and my husband. The rest of the week, two other couples were added to our table by the dining room staff. If given the choice, we would not sit there again. kate23 Posted August 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 31, 2014 I sailed Oasis two weeks ago. I would assume the dining room is the same setup on Allure. If the smell of cigarette smoke is a concern, I would avoid the tables near the front entrance of the dining room. The smell of smoke from the casino permeated into the front area of the dining room. Some might find this bothersome. Kate
