I am usually sleeping by midnight. So the midnight buffet would not appeal to me. We are so used to getting up early for work that even on vacation we get up early but go to bed early too.

I probably would be drinking at midnight but not sure about a buffet.

There's never, ever been a time when we were able to eat anything from the midnight buffet! What a huge waste of food that was! Sure...it was pretty...and something you certainly don't see every day, but what a waste!

agreed! 1000%.

I agree that the midnight buffet is probably a waste since we are still full from dinner and these days we are back in our cabin. But on our first cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas they had a chocolate midnight buffet that was unbelievable. Never seen one since.

I also miss people dressing for dinner.

Good question!

One of the first New Year's cruises were we took was on the old Sunward II. Bottles of champagne flowed freely.

Never really ate anything at the Midnight Buffet but it was pretty.

Miss skeet shooting.

Skeet shooting was great I Miss it I also miss the ship docking on front street in Bermuda.

I remember reading a book that included some of the most often asked silly questions on a cruise ship. One of them was, "What time is the midnight buffet?"

We have gone, but rarely have we eaten much. I miss that it's not available, but agree it's probably a good thing to not have it.

Dear Mr Robberts

As your a Garden Stater, long time cruiser too. Missing the bon voyage parties. Princess lines does something in Red hook when those ships are in.

Skeet shooting was wonderful. From the Garden State as you know Holland American and other lines used to go to the Bermuda Islands all the time. Still missing more lines from NJ and NYC, NY as so many cruisers live so close and have the most competition in the World from our people as well ports.

But to me and as all who cruised before the Royal and Carnivilazations the food quality, quantity, variety and inclusive costs were so so nice. liquor and beverages also were worth it then.

I think you may concur.

I miss a decent sized stateroom; on the small to medium sized ships, the staterooms that indicated they would house 4 people would still be comfortable for all. No climbing over things and each other to move around in the room.

It appears all of the newer mega ships offer less space in the staterooms with the occupancy number the same.

I am talking about your average stateroom, not a suite.

I realize this was done to get more people on board, maybe to purchase another room instead and to have it so people do not want to spend lots of time in their room but it was nice to be more comfortable in your room. :)

Years ago when my parents would cruise we all would go on the ship for a "bon voyage party" then we would stay on pier till the ship pulled away which would be another party with all the cruisers throwing confetti and streamers down to us. That was fun...I miss that :(

Maybe we are remembering different eras, but I certainly do not miss those 108 square-foot OV cabins on older ships such as the Majesty. They were not much larger than the studio cabins on the new ships, but had two beds in them.

They actually still have a small "midnight buffet" (nothing like the one you are talking about though, it contains just of a little "snack"... :p), and you find it in the casino around midnight.

What I miss personally, that they did have 6-10 years ago is the following:

* Cesar's Salad made to order tableside for each person (they used to do that in the specialty restaurants).

* Crepe Suzette Flambee at Le Bistro - made to order (I do understand that they don't do the stuff "flambee" anymore, because of fire hazard, but I would be happy to have it without the flames as well).

* The mushroom soup at Le Bistro served in a bowl made of bread.

I started cruising just as the midnight buffets were ending. While they were pretty, the food was generally unremarkable. I think the 24-hour Blue Lagoon and O'Sheehan's are a great improvement. As for what else I miss...nothing, really. I think most of the changes have been good ones, especially from a social and environmental standpoint.

Miss the good old days of sailing....great shows...big bands....25 cent drink specials poolside......free happy hours/cocktail parties......buffets --seafood buffets too....literally non stop food and entertainment (not just trivia/bingo in the afternoons)...oh and don't forget the lobster & shrimp cocktails

Things always change.....

Enjoy the lower prices now.....still enough food on NCL now

Love sailing...and really enjoy the perks CAS gives to us

Safe sailing

What fun that was! :D

My favorite Bon Voyage Parties were on SS Norway! Their marching band played and we'd wear party hats, throw confetti & streamers, and release a cloud of colorful helium balloons! :D

I do agree. I know it is not the food I miss at the midnight buffet but more the grandeur of it the fruit and ice carvings it was cool.

I agree entirely. The antipasti trolley also went a few years ago
