UPNYGuy Posted September 3, 2014 Author #26 Share Posted September 3, 2014 It appears your FIL is somewhat irrational/emotional? If so, what happens when he realizes YOU took the room he wanted, and he still thinks it would have been a good deal for him? He isn't irrational OR emotional, just excited. Hence why I went in there before he did. My mother in law would never let him live it down. She's a wonderful woman, but likes to bring up things like that. UPNYGuy Posted September 3, 2014 Author #27 Share Posted September 3, 2014 So I guess you've already started working on your story for when you all get on board and he sees which cabin you're in  Yup... I'll have them back there during a show ;) Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted September 3, 2014 #28 Share Posted September 3, 2014 I'm sitting here killing myself laughing... tears and all. I was so hoping it was something like you taking a lousy cabin before your FIL got it but wasn't sure. Being a MIL, I'm glad to see you weren't doing it to be nasty. Kudos to you. :D
AEckhardt Posted September 3, 2014 #29 Share Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Why didn't you just explain to your FIL why it wasn't a "great deal" and then you could both have booked decent locations? UPNYGuy Posted September 3, 2014 Author #30 Share Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Because DW and I are never really in our rooms during the show times, so I took that cabin. I won't book a suite on the Sun, because it doesn't have The Haven, and we are typically "out and about" on an Alaska sailing. I figured the location isn't great but the noise won't be bothersome because we will be at the shows with MIL (she had to have a medical procedure done, but has healed and now wants to go after several years of being in pain and saying no...YAY). So hence why we went there. FIL is a great man, but would have thought "oh empty space not used during the day" and booked there. He wouldn't have thought "oh... Speakers..." garycarla Posted September 3, 2014 #31 Share Posted September 3, 2014 Either way, what happens when they figure out YOU took that room? I don't get how that is going to turn out good.
UPNYGuy Posted September 3, 2014 Author #32 Share Posted September 3, 2014 Either way, what happens when they figure out YOU took that room? I don't get how that is going to turn out good. No it will. I've known them for years. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Starry Eyes Posted September 3, 2014 #33 Share Posted September 3, 2014 Maybe the lesson FIL will learn is "Hurry and book before SIL (or somebody else) gets that bargain cabin" Anyway if MIL would not have liked the cabin, it was good of you to remove it from inventory. CasinoCruzGirl Posted September 3, 2014 #34 Share Posted September 3, 2014 DW and I are going on the Sun next summer with the in-laws. FIL has been on a cruise with us, but MIL has not. FIL wants a balcony, but doesn't really pay attention where he winds up. I called NCL and had them switch us into the BX above the theatre, so we wouldn't have to listen to my MIL should he go in there thinking he "got a deal" FWIW, wife and I enjoy the later shows, and don't have children to worry about, so the noise is of little concern. Anybody else ever do this??? Sent from my iPad using Forums A BX is a balcony GTY and can be anywhere not necessarily above the theatre.
AEckhardt Posted September 3, 2014 #35 Share Posted September 3, 2014 A BX is a balcony GTY and can be anywhere not necessarily above the theatre. I thought this as well.
Starry Eyes Posted September 3, 2014 #36 Share Posted September 3, 2014 A BX is a balcony GTY and can be anywhere not necessarily above the theatre. Many of the "X" categories, like BX, will have a few specific cabin numbers (often only 4 or so), though many "X" are sold as gty. So, if the OP says he snapped up the last assignable BX cabin (a balcony over the thearter in is case) before his IL could book it, then we should believe the OP. SuiteCruiser Posted September 3, 2014 #37 Share Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) That is EXACTLY what I meant. Sent from my iPad using Forums Yay! I'm the winner :) Sounds like your MIL is a winner too, for you to go through this to make sure she's happy :) Edited September 3, 2014 by SuiteCruiser
EBONI325 Posted September 3, 2014 #38 Share Posted September 3, 2014 I still do not understand why you want to treat your in laws in such a terrible fashion. It is so passive-aggressive. Take them on a cruise, but get them a cabin they will not like. Me thinks a therapist should go along with you. The op took the crappy cabin so the inlaws wouldn't get stuck with it.Therefore giving them a shot at a better one.

shepherdqueen Posted September 3, 2014 #40 Share Posted September 3, 2014 We booked that room before my father in law had a chance to, not being familiar with the layout of the ship, he would have (thinking he scored a deal). That way, he and my MIL would be able to enjoy the cruise without having to listen to the theatre below. I just realized I left that detail out. He just sent me an email ranting that the room he wanted was sold. I have not replied. I know it is the one I went in. He will thank me after he realizes where it is... ;) Sent from my iPad using Forums You are a great son-in-law. Kudos to you.
DaisyL Posted September 4, 2014 #41 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I enjoyed watching this story unfold. What a great SIL you are! Have a great cruise.
cruisecritiquer Posted September 4, 2014 #42 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Can you upgrade to a better cabin after the deadline to pay in full? He would probably have booked a higher category cabin by then (I assume) and wouldn't be able to trade down.
