paul929207 Posted September 14, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2014 We take one. It hooks under the handle of the suitcase. It has a grip for lifting. The problem is you have to be able to lift the heavy suitcase and hold still long enough for someone to read the weight.
montekat Posted September 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Luggage scales are identical to the fish scales sold in Walmart for around $6.87, only the face is a slightly different color. They weigh up to 50 lbs, so I figure if I can raise it up and the marker doesn't go past the 50 mark, I'm good. You can also buy digital scales for around $20 in the luggage supply area, but then you have keep the batteries fresh (unless you cruise & fly often!) Putterdude Posted September 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Amazon sells a variety of them...here is the one that we have....actually we have 2 but that is a whole other story. http://www.amazon.com/Travelon-Micro-Scale-Black-Size/dp/B0040QC4SG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1410720174&sr=8-7&keywords=digital+luggage+scale
sail7seas Posted September 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2014 I have one I bought in Bed, Bath and Beyond for about $10. It is amazingly accurate.
navybankerteacher Posted September 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2014 The $15 one we got at Brookstone has two hands - the red one gets pushed around by the black one and stays at the given weight, so you do not have to look at it while lifting; then you re-set it to zero manually. Mine does that, too. It makes it a lot less awkward to use. I used to have to juggle around in front of a mirror to try and read the old one while I was lifting.
suekay Posted September 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Ours is digital and beeps when it's reached the final weight. We've used it for years and never replaced the battery (bet it goes flat now!)

That is the type we have -- $10 a few years ago at WalMart.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 14, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2014 We have a very good luggage scale (all digital and very accurate) and it has paid for itself many times as we will often pack within a pound of the limit and never worry about going over. Most of the good accurate electronic scales sell for about $20 which is about double the price of some of the really cheap scales. Keep in mind that if it saves you from having to pay an airline fee on just one bag...you have more then paid for the scale. Hank
