Onboard credit question

I say call! In April we cruised on the Jewell started out with and inside- prices went down so I called got an oceanview, prices went down again and for $18 got a balcony. I was happy! Worse thing they can do is say is no.

Bleh! Called TA & they said that the OBC on the promo cannot be used for gratuities. So spending more doesn't mean better deal. Also he told me I have OBC$ for the current booking (I didn't know that.. WOOHOO!)... but I cannot use that for gratuities either. *shrugs* I'll leave it alone. Besides it's a port intensive cruise, I wouldn't be spending that much time in the room.

Save $$$ for my next cruise!

I have never ever heard of this. OBC of any kind is a credit to your onboard account. Im not sure how it could NOT be used for gratuities. I hope someone can explain this one.

Never heard of this unless you have MTD and have already paid your tips.

It's my first time on Royal so I'm not familiar. On Norwegian -- they have ObC that is allowed for gratuities & some that aren't so on account, it'll have 2 listings. The OBC allowed for gratuities will decrease everyday & OBC not allowed: they will have a note that says... must use before last day, etc.

The OBC that's not allowed to be used for gratuities forces you guys to buy stuff & hopefully make you spend more than the amount given.

Example if you get a coupon from "XYZ" $10 off for spending over $50 or something... same idea. Cash back but it forces u to spend $. I say.. just don't go shopping at all & not spend $ at all! HA! need to make sure my mom stays away from the stores!

oh well to get the obc$.. I have to put out more... i might not find so much stuff to buy w/ the OBC -- if left over.

We don't buy photos or drink package or shop much & for shore excursions, we tend to book outside. It's not like we can save it for the next cruise. -- one shot.. booze it up at the bar.. MUAHAHAH!

So far, Royal does not make any distinction in the type of OBC that can be used for gratuities.

On RCL if you have non-refundable OBC (usually credit from RCL) you can take it out at the casino- You pay a 5% service charge but it is better than getting back nothing or spending it on stuff you don't want or need
