Cost of rental cars

My husband and I normally get a rental car from thrifty at a reasonable price ($20 per day). We have gotten that price for the last three years in December and January. This year, we are looking at $50 per day. Anyone have an idea why the jump in price? I also looked for coupons and discounts and there isn't much.

Noticing a significant price increase at Avis too. Also, rentals that used to have unlimited miliage now have a limit over which a per mile charge is added.

We also notice that any discounts are for the weekly rate.

Look for discount codes.

Hotels, flights and car rentals are back to the real pricing of supply and demand for sure. I've learned not to look back to the "good old days". ;)

We too have usually rented from Thrifty...but this past October we got a much better rate thru Costco (luckily they were running a special) for Budget.

Might wanna check Sixt also. I was able to get a convertible for less the $42 a day. They have an advance purchase for $13 dollars a day for a very basic car.

They currently have unlimited mileage! Which is great for us cause we are driving to Key West pre-cruise! I am also renting in December but booked several months ago.
