Golden won't leave port until Tues.

Any idea yet what the problem is? We sail this Friday with four new cruisers. I would be upset if we sat at the port overnight. I hope they get it fixed. I know things happen but it was so hard for everyone to get off of work at the same time.
Look at it this way: you'll still be on the ship enjoying just about everything and no one will have to worry about seasickness. Heck, I love doing the BVE (and I know you do, too) so look at it as an extended BVE. :)

On this cruise with wehwalt. Happy to be sailing, I heard propeller issues. DH and I were just happy that at least we had air conditioning. I've met tons of first time cruisers who are not the least bit happy. DH watched the game last night and I used my casino money for an awesome (for a change) massage.

Did not go to dinning room, planning on crab shack and stuff. I was wondering what might be different with these shorter cruises. Last night had a burger that was un-like ANY I've ever had on a Princess Ship. The patty itself was kind of like something you would get in a grade school cafeteria - weird. Also ordered a club sandwich from room service last night that was just about the saddest little thing ever - tiny little crumbles of bacon and the turkey was bizzare. Oh well, not cooking and doing dishes at home - otherwise the staff has been wonderful!

Just an FYI on the whole buffet thing. CA Law does not allow food to be removed from the premises of restaurants classified as buffets (not sure for sanitation reasons or to protect the operators from people going food shopping at the salad bar).

While in port, Princess is obliged to follow all CA laws (and collect taxes) so technically they could be fined. If they were making a point of it, there was probably a CA inspector aboard.

I leave on the Golden a week today. I will be disappointed not to enjoy sail away. Have been on 43 cruises and that`s still a highlight for me. Hope we leave on time.

Hey neighbor..... I/we will also be on that same cruise, hope the weather will be as nice as it has been in our desert this week. Taking 4 newbe's for their first taste of cruising ( three under 16)

No biggie. You are onboard!!! Call it a sea day and enjoy yourself. The only change will be less cruising in a circle before stopping at Catalina. I would bet that quite a few people on your cruise have the same sort of day when the ship hits Ensenada. They will treat that as another "in port sea day".

Our last two Hawaiian cruises, we treated our Ensenada stop the same way. The closest we got to Ensenada was going to the deck guard rail and looking at the port. And the cruise before that, we just went to the marketplace at the pier and got back on the ship. From the crowd by the pool, it looked like 90 per cent of the passengers had the same idea.

Hmm interesting. I don't understand the food shopping part as you're not leaving the ship with the lettuce or salad fixings. A couple of cruises ago, our ship left about four and a half hours late out of San Pedro (waiting for a big group which apparently didn't make it due to trusting Princess air during winter), and we had gone to the Horizon for dinner, and I don't remember hearing that you couldn't take your food out then or at lunch on any cruise, for that matter.

I guess for anyone who wanted to use the casino the first night or needed something from the ship's stores, it would be a pain. Since I don't gamble nor have a need for booze, I probably wouldn't care at all.

:confused::confused::confused:Never once have I been asked not to take food from the buffet.

This is due to California health code regulations. Hopefully Princess doesn't enforce it.

That's what they told us on Mariner - they said it was to prevent a Medfly infestation - no food was to leave any dining venue. A complete and utter load of rubbish, especially considering that they were offering room service to the full suites on disembarkation day.

Mariner is the only ship on which we've encountered that rule - even Monarch, in the same company, didn't have it. I think it was for their convenience so they wouldn't have to be chasing down plates, cups, cutlery, etc. Or there was a special rule just for that ship because of her size. In any event, there was no such rule on Golden on any of our half dozen cruises on her.

The rule was intended for land buffets. People would go to an all you can eat Chinese buffet with a box of ziplocs in their handbag, if you catch my drift.

The rule wasn't meant to apply to cruise buffets but there is no exception.

Oh and on a related note, the medfly rule applies to food taken off ship, not out of the buffet (its possible someone was confused).

That's true Pam I do love a BVE. But we all have Caribe balconies (first time ever :)) and I really wouldn't be happy sitting in Port. I'm going to think positive, everything will be perfect :D

I hope everyone on board is having a fabulous cruise!

Yes, we experienced the very same thing on the Mariner on disembarkation day in San Pedro. They were militant about it.

We didn't try it on our RCCL cruise, but, we have always done it on Princess cruises (and not on disembarkation day either -- you have to be out of the cabin by 8:00am).

Yes, same on Royal, we had to be out by 8:00, but the incident that i speak of occurred at 6:00 a.m. When the buffet"guard" wouldn't let us remove a couple cups of coffee to take back to our balcony, and a couple little things like bananas and a bagel. We were quite surprised to Experience this since it was our 8th cruise from the same port and Princess had never enforced it, so we just thought it was an RCCL thing. :)
