RickEk Posted November 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Are any of the ports on Princess' Alaska cruises tender ports? Thanks In general, no. But, depending on how many ships are in port, you may have to tender if there is no dock space. I've had to tender in Juneau and Ketchikan before... Vexorg Posted November 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2014 On the Inside Passage cruise I did recently the ship docked in all ports, but there was one Carnival ship tendering in Juneau when I was there (a total of 4 ships in port that day.) SadieN Posted November 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Which ports are you looking at? I know Sitka and Icy Straight Point are tender ports. No idea if they're on any of Princess' itins.

ChiefBoats Posted November 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Also Icy Strait Point if it is on the itinerary. We have seen tendering done in Ketchikan due to the number of ships in port. ___________________________ Island Princess 2008 Alaska Island Princess (B2B) 2009 Alaska Royal Princess (Old) 2010 Alaska Golden Princess 2011 Alaska Coral Princess 2012 Panama Canal Star Princess 2012 Alaska Island Princess 2013 Alaska Crown Princess 2013 Western Caribbean Caribbean Princess 2013 Western Caribbean Royal Princess 2014 Eastern Caribbean Royal Princess 2014 New England _____________________ Future Cruises Emerald Princess 2014 Western Caribbean Ruby Princess 2015 Alaska Edited November 12, 2014 by ChiefBoats
Thrak Posted November 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Wow. I guess we were lucky. We did Alaska along with our oldest son who is in a wheelchair. It was our first cruise and we never even considered that there might be an issue with getting ashore. We did Hawaii with the same son and he was unable to go ashore when we were at Maui due to being unable to tender. However, we knew about that in advance. Av8tor Posted November 12, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Was looking for the Princess standard ports of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. We have 2 Dolphin minis booked and remembered that the tender extension mechanisms right below the dolphin deck floor make one heck of a racket when they operate out/in to lower/raise the tenders...
born2cruize Posted November 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2014 In 2005 we did a round trip 11 days out of Seattle. Only tender port would have been Sitka but missed it due to engine problems. (Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Seward, Sitka, and Prince Rupert). In 2007 did 13 days from San Francisco only tender ports were Nanaimo and Sitka. we would have also tendered in Icy Strait Point but missed it due to engine problems. (Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince Rupert, Ketchikan, Sitka, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and Juneau). In 2009 we did 14 day round trip from Seattle only tender ports were Icy Strait Point and Juneau. (Ketchikan, Skagway, Valdez, Seward, Kodiak, Icy Strait Point, Juneau and Victoria). In 2012 our NB nor SB cruise from Vancouver had tender ports. (Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway). satxdiver Posted November 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 13, 2014 We did a round trip out of Seattle and a NB out of Vancouver. No ports were tendered. We visited Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway on both trips.

towhee Posted November 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted November 15, 2014 If you look at the itinerary for your cruise there will be a "T" next to any port that is tendered. Sitka and Icy Strait Point do not have docks, so they are always tendered. There are some times when there are more ships in port in Ketchikan, Skagway, and Juneau than there is dock space, so tendering is required. We have a picture taken by my husband from Mt. Roberts of our ship "arriving" in Juneau. When we first arrived we tendered out and then when another Princess ship left, we took her berth. Quite often we've been on tenders that have passengers, who use wheelchairs. I don't know what the issue was when you were in Hawaii.
dadroy Posted November 15, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 15, 2014 This article is a little old, but apparently Sitka has a pier that can accept cruise ships. Not sure if any mass market lines are using it yet since it is privately owned and 5 miles outside of town. http://www.alaskapublic.org/2012/12/05/sitka-dock-to-get-first-regular-visits-in-2013/ Not sure if I would prefer to tender or take the shuttle bus to the dock:confused:
