Cheers 15 drink a day limit? Can I buy more?

Did I understand someone to say you could buy a bucket of beer under the program and it would just count as one towards the 15?

I was thinking I read that you could not purchase buckets on the cheers program.. Hmm, we will be on the Magic next month and was trying to decide if we should or shouldn't :)

It was reported that you could, but 1 of the beers would be counted against your 15 and the others would be charged against your sail n sign.

On my recent Triumph cruise I purchased the Cheers program. On the last sea day I earned my Drink On Us card from the casino. I asked the guy how that worked with cheers. He said I should get up to 14 drinks outside the casino, then start getting free drinks from the casino. I never drank enough to test it out, lol.

What you were advised is correct... However, do not hit 15 under cheers and then try to use the drinks on us card.. you cant... A friend I was on a cruise with last year, earned the drinks on us card but hit is 15 max for the day and when he tried to use the drinks on us card, the waiter came back and said he cannot.. the system locks out once 15 is reached for you, and you can not use the drinks on us card..

Looks like Carnival is a fun place to be filled with drunks. Seriously, Carnival has a reputation already, so this entire topic, is going to accomplish what? Motivate others to go to Carnival? 15 drinks in a day, is more than enough. But if you really feel it is an injustice, other cruise lines don't set limits. Instead they do what bar tenders are suppose to do. Cut you off, if they think you have had enough.

All the Carnival cheerleaders should be mad now, and have this thread removed. This only makes Carnival look bad.

I am of the opinion that these bartenders should use their judgement. If a person is sloppy drunk then yes cut said person off whether they are on the cheers program or not. all these self-righteous people on this site need to get a grip talking about 15 is enough. for most of us, yes 15 drinks may well be enough, but for others who start during the day (particularly on a sea day) or if the drinks are weak i can see someone getting to 15 drinks and being totally fine. I know if I ever go on Carnival and have the descrectionary funds to buy the cheers package, I will not be wasting my drinks on Beers or wines, but that is just me.

I think I can speak for a lot of people here, no its not that Carnival is full of people who want to get drunk this is not true, I think I can speak for everybody else:

I don't care for Carnival's drink package because I don't want to even think or worry about my hitting the last drink, 15. I want to relax and have peace and by me having to count my drinks to make sure I don't hit my last one early is annoying and have to even worry or think about my hitting the 15, I want to relax and not have to count the amount of drinks I have, I want peace in knowing when I want a drink its available....I can drink 15 drinks in the course of the day and not even have a buzz I am perfectly fine so is my other half and our elderly father in law! But do we....I believe out of the past 6 cruises only my other half and myself hit the 15th three times, fortunately it was near midnight when they happened so we were fine with it, but if it were around 7pm or so, we would not be happy.

I prefer to cruise with other cruise lines that set no limits just so I don't have "that worry".....if one has the drinks on us program they deserve it as it is a benefit given to them from the casino, it is not counted towards your drink package but to get those drinks you have to get them in the casino of course and earn them from the casino too!

Just got off the Fascination and had the Cheers! program. We made friends with the 2 bartenders at the Atrium bar and they took VERY good care of us. Hubs hit the 15 limit on 2 days, but we had a bottle in the cabin so it was not a problem. Would definitely do Cheers! again, I know it saved us money.

Actually weight has nothing to do with how much you drink, it all is how your liver process it and yes I am a nurse. I am about 140 lbs and I can drink a lot of ppl under the table doing patron tequila shots and I only drink 1 mix drinks when at a restaurant, nothing when I am at home (I am a social drinker) and only go out with friend about once ever 3 months and I will surprise most ppl how much I can drink. I do not plan on hitting my limit but maybe one night or two as this is a girls trip, no kids, no husbands. So i guess if I get close I will have to buy a bottle, that was an awesome idea.

If you only go out every three months and out drink people to the point they are surprised, your not a social drinker, but rather a binge drinker. Just sayin'

Carnival has to put a limit to stop people from getting drinks for all of their friends. I know they make you wait 15 minutes between orders (at least they did when I had free drinks in the casino) but even then you could order 4 an hour, over 10 hours that is 40 drinks. They don't limit people buying drinks because, well, you are paying for it. Carnival is in this to make money, after all.

Do drinks over the $10 limit that we get with the 25%, and bottles of wine get included in the 15 limit?

If I were to get close to the limit for the day, could I go ahead and buy a bottle of wine? Which brings up another question, where CAN I buy a bottle of wine? Is it only at the MDR? Can I take it back to the room?

I am not sure as to drinks over $10. I do know from experience that if you buy a bottle of wine (25% off) before you reach the 15 limit, it does not count against the limit. Once you reach the limit, that is it until 6:00am.

In Carnival's FAQ it doesn't mention this for Buckets specifically, that I could see, but does say they are excluded from the program. I would assume the purchase of a bucket would be considered "buying a round for friends" which you can do, and that only counts as one.

I think the biggest issue I have with the 15 drink rule is if I have cheers and hit 15, I'm done. If you don't have cheers, feel free to have #16. The 15 rule is so you don't share and even risk getting there. The other issue, is Carnival is the one line with the drink limit. I don't even have a problem with the 15 limit for the program, to control costs, but not allowing someone to buy after that is crazy.

I can assure you that starting early, 15 is an easy number to hit and never get intoxicated, especially if one were to inclined to drink beer all day. Now 15, when you start at 4 pm on a port day, could get a little hairier. My wife and I have discussed the cheers program, because we like to drink, but I'm not sure we can hit break even on a port day, so the question becomes will drink enough on sea days to justify any shortage we have on port days. I'm inclined to say we won't do it, simply because I don't want the pressure to have another drink to make sure I get past breakeven.

One curious question: what do they do with the mini bar, if you are on cheers? I mean if I hit 15, couldn't I go back and use that (I wouldn't do that simply due to $$$)?

I can't believe how judgmental some people on here are, amazes me how they know what is best for me or how I like to enjoy a sea day. For example take a look at the following schedule, no way would I pay for cheers when now quite a few lines offer their version free and don't tell me ho much to drink.

9 AM - Bloody Mary - 1

9:30 big breakfast

10:30 - noon - 3 beers in casino - 4 drinks total

Nap for 2 hours

2 PM 3:30 PM - 4 beers at pool - 8 drinks total

Burger/Fires + 1 hour nap

5 PM - 6:30 PM 4 beers dinner - 12 drinks total

Now it is not even 7 PM and I can only drink 3 more beers over the next 5 hours. All day I have eaten 3 times and napped twice and I would not even have a buzz. No thanks I will stick to other lines thanks.

Some people don't get examples like this, that come up in every type of similar discussion, because it demonstrates literally drinking all day. Who downs 4 beers over dinner? I like to enjoy my meals. I'm not filling my stomach with a bunch of liquid. By this example no it isn't hard to reach 15. And do so before 8 pm! That's a lot of liquid in my opinion. And over the course of a week, just can't see it. But that's me. Cheers offers no discount. Just don't buy it. After all, people who don't come near the limit have no choice but to not purchase it. If they can't modify the program to accommodate people who drink less, why should it be modified folks who drink more?

I know on ships that have the candy store near the Fun Shops (called Cherry on Top!), you can order a bottle of wine and have it waiting in your cabin when - or shortly after - you arrive on the first day. Similar to the Bon Voyage for the hard liquor.

I understand that there is a hard cut-off at 15 drinks.

But can I circumvent my cheers program altogether and buy a bucket of beers or a bottle of wine or champagne, at full price and tell the bartender to charge it to my S&S card, because I am buying a round of drinks for my group at the pool. This would be done during the day as a completely separate purchase and before I have reached the 15 drink limit from the cheers program.

Rules clearly (as mud) state that I can by more expensive drinks or bottles of wine or champagne. If I have to use my cheers drink count then how is a bottle of wine that I purchased deducted from my cheers program

What’s included?

  • All spirits (including cocktails), as well as beer and wine by the glass with a $10.00 or lower menu price Soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails
  • 25% off menu price of bottle water
  • 25% off the menu price for spirits above $10.00 per drink (Would this count as one of my drinks if I'm paying for it?)
  • 25% off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle (Would this count as one of my drinks if I'm paying for it?)

you can buy a round of drinks for friends but 1 drink must come off of the cheers (for you).

I think a bottle of wine would not count toward the cheers count.

Guests may purchase a round of drinks for themselves and friends. One drink will count towards the CHEERS! program and the remaining drinks will be charged to the guest’s Sail and Sign account.

That's what I had hoped.

Thanks for the clarification.

Did you find that info on carnival.com?
