"LIVE" from Quantum of the Seas - Jan. 23, 2015

Good morning everyone. Welcome to DAY 7 of “LIVE” from Quantum of the Seas.

I woke up very early this morning and did 14 laps around the ship, and 27 minutes on the elliptical in the fitness center. WHEW! Then I woke up and realized I was dreaming and we were traveling VERY slow – 2 to 3 knots. It seems that’s all we’ve been doing all night as St. Maarten is only 40nm away from St. Kitts.

I looked at Marinetraffic.com and was happy to see that we would be sharing the port (A.C. Wathey pier) with several other vessels, to include Regal Princess, Costa Mediterranea, Celebrity Summit and Holland America Noordam.

Today I will be renting a vehicle and exploring the island. I always seem to rent a vehicle in St. Maarten and just like previous times, there are no planned excursions. I will decide where to go once I put the key into the ignition. I am pretty sure that you can count on me finding a beautiful beach somewhere with some delicious food and drink.

My dinner last night was uneventful as I dined at Windjammer. It’s the first time I dined here this cruise and I thought it was very good, with an array of options. I also like that an unlimited amount of ice cream can be consumed, which goes very well with freshly brewed coffee.

Here are a few pics from our arrival. . .

Beautiful pics, Mark. Thank you.

It's fun to see that Coral World and the gondolas haven't changed much in all these years. We got to go on them many years ago on the Mariner.

Do you have a picture of the whole pier from Paradise Point? You know, the famous view of all three ships? Just like the gondola picture, without the gondola blocking the ships? That would be beautiful of Q sitting down there.

Have a safe trip.

Wonderful photos.

So where do you get the unlimited ice cream? Multiple flavors?

Radio, I was wondering what the average price for non alcoholic cocktails like pina coladas or daiquiris are? I don't drink and I am trying to figure if it would be cost effective to get the replenish package at $19 a day or just pay by the glass. I do know that more is offered in the package, but I don't drink coffee or hot tea and I don't have a problem with the lemonade or ice tea they serve. TIA.

Where on the dock is the casino located? We've been there three times and never noticed it. I'd be interested in checking it out.. Also, is ice cream available all day at Windjammer? Glad you're feeling better and enjoy St Martin. Is the Quantum in the farthest docking spot of the dock?

Great pics as usual. (You spoiled us and we have come to expect great pics.) I am trying to figure out when they built the new terminal. Sailed from Bayonne November 2013 and did not notice any construction. Always hated those short bus rides, especially disembarking with luggage. Anyway I noticed that the Quantum pricing reflects the upgraded ship and terminal. I do kinda miss the Explorer.

That other ship looks like something from a Transformers movie compared to the Quantum!

they just finished the new building in November of this year. as well the new parking garage is supposed to be done in march but, i havent seen or heard anything

Um, no. The low they sailed through was the storm that came through a couple of days ago. The storm that will cause the blizzard in the NE, hasn't even formed yet. It's a clipper coming through the mid-atlantic and will form a new low that will become the nor'easter/blizzard.

We sailed back to Baltimore in March of last year following three separate lows that brought snow to the mid-atlantic and we had 30+ foot seas for over 12 hours on our next to last sea day. Those lows can cause widespread heavy seas.

We were on that same cruise last March. It cracked the running track over the pool deck. Not fun.

Radio, thanks so much for once again posting a fantastic travelogue. We are enjoying the revisiting of the different venues on board. It is helping to keep the excitement alive until we board again in April.

Glad to read that you are feeling better and able to enjoy St. Maarten.

We didn't do any Windjammer dinners the last time we were on the "Q", what type of entrees did they offer? More importantly, where are they hiding the ice cream? :D

Wishing you smooth seas for the last leg of your vacation.

Thanks so much for all the work that goes into posting a Live review! Your pics and info are great! I hope to sail on Quantum one of these days. Never been to St. Kitts and it looks great. Is it similar to St. Thomas? Seems so with the mountains.
