lakemurraykid Posted January 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2015 We've been to Alaska twice and are planning going the latter part of May or early June this year. Previous times we've gone to Sitka, but this trip includes Skagway. What is there to do? There are two other couples going with us and I know they would like this information as well. Thanks much. mapleleaves Posted January 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) What to do will depend on your interests, budget, physical abilities. Look under 'VISITOR" on the town's web site for ideas. http://skagway.com/ The train is a popular excursion. Or some people prefer renting a car and driving to the Yukon. Lots of great hiking. There are many threads that discuss the train ride .... RT, or one-way with bus, etc. And if you look over the first few pages of this forum you;ll find a thread that discusses the train vs car with photos of both trips. travgurl Posted January 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Check out Trails of 98 (TNT) tours. http://www.tntours98.com/#_=_ We have booked with this company for the 7 hour tour to go up the Klondike highway. I chose it from the reviews that I read online. Seems to be highly rated! Hope this helps! We are looking forward to our first trip in July to Alaska. Northern Aurora Posted January 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2015 While gold wasn't actually found in Skagway this community is historically significant as a entrance into the Klondike gold fields. Many of the shore excursions and tours relate to its Klondike history. Skagway is located at the head of a beautiful and relatively narrow inlet, and the town itself is lovely. It is very walkable. lax19 Posted January 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) The train offers half day and full day trips. We took the half day trip up to the Canadian border and back (long enough for us). Back in Skagway at noon-ish, we headed over to the Skagway Fish Company for King Crab Legs. We then strolled around town and went in an out of the different shops. Skagway was a very relaxing day with no real time constraints. Budget Queen Posted January 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Take a look at your shore excursion list. The above mentions are only a small portion of what is available. Heading to your library and taking out some Alaska Port of Call books would be of benefit as well. There are hundreds of choices.

Madtalker Posted January 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Check out national Park Service http://www.nps.gov/klgo/index.htm We got there early and did their walking tour. Best tour for free. Last time we went through http://www.frontierexcursions.com/river-&-white-pass-combo.html. The hike was a little strenuous but if you are active it was at a good pace. It was nice to get out with the flora and fauna and away from city and ship. Enjoy
