Balcony vs Jr. Suite

Is a Jr. Suite worth about $1000 more than a balcony on Veranda deck? For 3 people that is.

I am sure the suite is nice but I can not justify spending that much money! That is enough to pay for another cruise, or at least a nice chunk of another cruise and is certainly enough to spend on board if you drink and gamble. We only used our room to sleep in last time and go back for a nap or two. We did splurge a little for a cove balcony on our upcoming cruise but it was just to give it a try. Our cruise in June we got a large balcony (one of the L shaped rooms) but it was with the casino offer and was basically free, so why the heck not? After these two cruises we will probably go back to ocean view unless we can get a balcony for a really good price. I doubt we use our balcony a whole lot. Maybe we will on the June cruise since it appears it will just be the two of us with no friends going. If you have other people with you then I find you are constantly doing something that someone wants to do, so very little time is spent in the room.

For a suite, sure. For a junior suite, though, no. The balcony's the same size. The cabin itself is a little bigger, but if it's just two of you it's not worth $1000 extra.

The suites aren't that sweet, whether it's a junior or a grand. Bigger room & bigger balcony; maybe worth a little extra, but definitely not $1000. My friends had a suite while I was in a 1A, and I spent plenty of time in their room. And I have been in a balcony & a cove. The cove has been my favorite of the 3, and I didn't see the grand suite as being very much better than the regular balcony room.

A suite is always worth it in our book, but it depends upon the ship class. The Jr. Suites on older ships like the Fascination has tiny, tiny balconies. We did it once and you can't even have two people on the balcony at the same time. On newer ships, I believe the Jr. Suites are larger and have larger balconies.

On the Dream the Jr Suites say the balcony is obstructed. Anybody know what the obstruction is?

One of the problems with money is everyone values it differently. $1,000 to some is a drop in a spittoon and to others it is their entire cruise cost. My wife and I view it differently. I would rather save money with an inside and she prefers balconies. Only you can decide if it is worth the extra money based on what you think is worth $1,000.

 

I read a thread recently where a gentleman was talking about flying from Boston to Los Angeles to catch a Hawaii cruise. He was booking first class and the tickets were $7,000 pp round-trip. Sorry, I fly coach and would never spend that much on a 5-6 hour flight, or any flight for that matter.
