Casino slot machines

I'm not a big slot machine gambler, but I have heard that HAL's slot machines aren't very loose... Can anyone attest one way or another?? Thanks and Go HAL!!

I have heard from many who say they are extremely tight and others who have said they are loose.

I think it just depends on who is winning and/or losing.

I remember about a year ago one CC Lady here on HAL's Boards who said the slots were so loose that she won enough in one night to pay for their entire cruise and had $$ left over. I believe she said $3,500 or $3,900.

I myself cannot play in the Casino so have nothing but "Word of Mouth," to rely on.

In the past, the first 2 nites seem to be the loosest. After that they tighten up. People that I have talked with that win big usually are betting big (not my cup of tea). I guess your best bet if you want a chance on winning, is to stick to card games.

I've saved a ton of money not playing slots anymore. We used to pay most nights after dinner but the smoke became impossible to tolerate and we stopped. I cannot remember last time I spent more than 5 minutes in a HAL casino. :o

I used to think the slots were tight years ago. It isn't like in Las Vegas that you can leave and go to another casino. No reason to be 'competitive'.

I'm sure the pay off rate is a lot less than Nevada where its not uncommon for casinos to provide 90-95% payoffs. But even with the casino making 5-10% on each machine means that most folks will lose most of the time. As for me, I prefer losing my money faster at the craps table rather than the slow, but inevitable, loss at slots one nickle at a time.

Penny slots, yes, very tight.

but we came out ahead on quarters and on dollar slots.

this pic is from our last evening on the Noordam back in November (it was enough to put us ahead and leave with winnings after playing the whole cruise).

TIGHT..very TIGHT.. 'tight as a ...' .. just say TIGHT and I'll leave it at that..

for those that may not know ..the casino onboard ALL of HAL's ships is run by the parent corp--Carnival Corporation-- and not by HAL

Nice !!! Congratulations. :)

That is my favorite style slot machine. I like the flames, particularly when lined up three 'on fire' 7's. :D

yeah. I like the "wheel of fortune" type machines too.. the ones on the ship didn't pay at ALL when spinning. . but on the reels?

kept hitting and came out ahead.

that triple flaming 7's there paid out 1000 coins ($250) (on a $20 investment that let me play for a good 40 minutes before hitting this).

Off the Eurodam Feb. 8, the slots were not very good! IMHO. We live in the Vegas area, and go to casinos a lot.

There is NO easy way to 'tighten' up a slot machine. The motherboard, with random number generator and pay chip, need to be changed........not worth the effort.

The slots on the Oosterdam two years ago, seemed to be more user friendly. I managed to hit a jackpot and play on their money for the whole 17 day cruise

Yes, I did give most back, but still managed to do it slowly with help of much friendlier machines than I found on the Eruodam. The casino employees were much friendlier, too.

Just my impressions. They don't build casinos with winners money.;)

  • 2 weeks later...

We prefer to play video poker instead of the slots.

DH hit a Royal Flush for $1000 on our last cruise and that win took us thru the rest of our trip - 18 nights Ft Lauderdale to Victoria last April.

We spend a lot of time in the casino so it was nice not to have to dip into our stake for gambling. :)

I totally agree with you. I play through out my cruises and this has been the pattern for the last several years. After about the 2nd day I go to the 3 card poker and usually end up ahead.

We play VP as well, but I dislike the poor payout schedules on cruise ships! Having said that, I must say that in the short term, payout schedules mean little - its all luck. When we are in Vegas we play VP ALOT, so having a good payout schedule is critical. Onboard ship, we only play a little, so the schedule does not mean much.

Same goes for the regular slots. Good story - my Mom never played slots, but once my Dad (heavy player) gave her three, one dollar tokens to go play. She goes up to a dollar machine, puts one dollar in - nothing. Second dollar she hits $1500! She takes the money and walks away, never having put the third one in!!

How come whenever the subject of gambling comes up, you only hear from the alleged winners. Just to change the pace, my wife and I lost $1,200 at the craps table during a January Westerdam cruise.

Ouch!!! I really feel for you! Stories like yours is why I don't gamble.
